225/40/R18 ok on the rears?

Hi folks.

I have the 108 alloys, with 225/40/R18 on the front and 225/35/R18 on the rears.

I've just come across a great deal on the 40s, four of them for a shade over a hundred quid.

The thing is, can I use them on the rear? Does it make a big difference?

Thanks,
David.

OK it should run 255's on the rears but david is asking if it's ok for 225's all round, i ran this set up for about 2000 miles last year dave and you will not notice any difference it's fine.

cool, thanks. I probably misread the tyre. I'm sure it's 255 on the rear. But I guess my question was if it would be ok running the 225/40/R19s all-round.. So thanks for helping out and Reading between the lines !!

David.

In a related vein...I accidentally ordered 45's for the front instead of 40's this last time. :o
I have not noticed any diminished handling, although I have not been on track with these tires yet. I would expect to notice something there, but on road I see no difference. In fact, I have gained a little ground clearance for the front lip, and made the ride a little nicer at the same time.
Might even consider going to 40's on the rear next time!

Your tyres have gone up to R19 now? :D

My head hurts too but surely it's a bad idea to be putting tyres on the rear that are 30mm too narrow.
You'll be stretching the sidewall and if they're run flats I'd imagine thats pretty hard to do.

You could always split the cost of the four 225/40/18's with another Z4 owner looking for a pair of front tyres :poke:
Are they bridgestone run flats that you're looking at?

That's the other option... Know anyone who needs them?

They're bridgestone runflats, alright.

Thanks for all the help guys, but unfortunately it's moot ... went to pick them up, which were described as '100% factory new' but in fact were knackered - barely legal. They were blackened all-round, cleaned up nicely - but anything more than a cursory glance proved that they were not as described!

Oh well, if something looks too good to be true - it probably is.

Absolutely true.

How about swapping for some Falken non-RFTs instead like some of the other guys?
