224M Wheels with Non-M Fitment Tyres

Ahh gottcha!

TBH the rears won't make too much difference. You just need to have the 'normal' 225/40/18 fitment for the fronts.

That what my 224s have on my 2.2 SE E85. You will find that the rears will be a tiny bit sticky outy.

No problem at all putting non-M tyres sizes on the 224s, rather than the taller rubber that the M has. Make sure you are comfortable with the offsets, though. Equivalent to running a 5mm spacer at the front and a 20mm spacer at the back, which is right on the limit in my opinion and not to everyone’s taste.

Correction: equivalent to 26.4mm spacer at the rear. I was forgetting the 224 is also 1/2” wider than non-M standard.

OP I think all the answers you've had are assuming you want to fit 224s to an E85, but if you've got 326s at present I'd guess you have an E89?

Apologies if I've got that wrong but if I'm right you will need higher profile tyres like the M uses to keep the the same rolling radius (and speedo accuracy) as you've got 19s and 224s are 18s.

I suspect 224s would need spacers to fit an E89, particularly on the front.

Definitely E85 . . .

Right, I couldn't find anything like that.

326s look great and possibly even better on an E85!

Probably heresy I know but I prefer them to 224s.

Thanks all for the help, I should have specified E85. Do love that picture!

I do love the 326Ms but the ride is too harsh for me. I’m also worried about further cracking as these are known for, one of the wheels has definitely been welded.

I’ll be putting them up for sale if once I’ve got a set of 224Ms, if anyone is interested, at probably quite a low price too.

Cheers!
