21 y/o looking to buy and insure..

I am 20 and have owned my 2.5i Z for about a month now so am probably quite well placed to help.

I am paying £1.8k fully comp, but have a £1k excess. That is with Elephant (but got Admiral to match it)

With a car that costs less than 8K anything over £1500 is ridiculous. I got myself a slightly less powerful car to build no claims at 23 2ync and 3 points i got a Z4Mc. Had a mini cooper (while I was at uni shared with my mum so didn't build any NC) then bought a 3 series first, loads of room looked gorgeous went like stink, loved it then went to the Z4Mc which is off the scale. If you can afford it then go for it. But £1800 then £265 to pay out at once every year... £2065 is a lot to swallow in one payment.

I run a cooper S during the week too and my insurance for the Z4M and the cooper S is less than most of what you guys are quoting. Through Elephant but as I said it depends where you live. A Z4 to build up your no claims probs isn't the car to do it on.

Haha, at 18, my little 1.6 saxo VTR cost my £1800 TPFT for year 1. £1000 year 2, Z4 FC £1800 in year 3 and £1250 in year 4.

Insurance is rediculous, although,
I think the value of your own car doesn't mean much now, it's the cost of the 3rd parties car, and all their personal injury claims...

After playing around, can now insure a 2.5 for £1,400 (£300 cheaper if i say its on the drive overnight rather than the garage?!) Or £1,600 to insure a 3.0. Have been looking all weekend and there's not much on autotrader that matches what i want, after the one i was after sold yesterday morning!

£1400 is still a lot for a 2.5 no way I would pay that. Especially for the 2.5, the 3.0 or the M is the only two worth having IMO.

I too am insured through Elephant being the cheapest for me.

I'm 25 but on a 2.0 but still paying about 1k but I did declare the 30k a year milage I put on the car and the 3 points I gained

I too did the parents on and as Elephant, Bell and Admeral all same company oddly enough Bell price was cheaper but Elephant just matched my renewal to the Bell price.

Although if under 25 I believe you can only drive other cars 3rd party on the Admeral and poss the Bell but not on the Elephant policy until you hit 25.

So ended up buying a 2.2 on Monday night!

Wasn't specifically looking for a 2.2 but the right car come up, so I bought it..

It's black, 108's (Slight corrosion), black leather, business CD, 54k on the clock

tomscott, You can't really compare your prices with others as you have pointed you're in a band A area.

I paid around £1600 when I got my Zed and I was in a band E area. now in a band D, plus three years older (28) and 4 years NCB I paid around £980 back in July. If I was in a band A I would probably pay around £500ish.
