For circa £20k what would you say is the rarest/most exotic car you can buy? Preferably it needs to be apreciating in value and a low production run.

My best answer was a Renault sport spider - what's yours?

Lancia Delta Integrale
Escort Cosworth
Alfa SZ
Audi S2
E30 M3

...mint, original examples of these are getting rarer and the prices are rising rapidly

Mclaren F1.
Apparently they've doubled in price since the 106 of them were made.

For £20k....... :o :poke:

As they used to tell me at school - Make sure you read and understand the questions before you answer....

Integrale or NSX would have been my choice.

Others I can think of... BMW Z1, Vauxhall Lotus Carlton and, a long shot, but with the much nicer rear I wonder if the Maserati 3200 might rebound? Although any gain would be lost in maintenance on the last one... still, that Ferrari V8

I was actually just about to suggest the Maserati Coupe as well but it was the 4200 GT that came with the Ferrari/Maserati V8.

The 3200 came with a twin turbo V6. You can get a 3200 from around 10 grand and the 4200 from about 15k. Both look awesome and sound great in their own way. I prefer the earlier cars rear lights though. Much better than the bland units of the 4200.

It's the Gransport you want...end of run, perfected model with the handling sorted. Lovely car that doesn't really seem to depreciate. I drove one over a year ago and the prices haven't moved.... more like £25k though

Renault 5 Turbo 2

the majority of the few that were made have been driven into ditches by Chavs - not that a Chav could afford one anymore

ga41, of course. Doh. 3200 for the lights... stupidly cheap! Although, not the best car.

mikedav, I really like the Gransport, but as you say, over budget. Would be stunning with the boomerang lights. Oddly, am not a fan of the 4200... not as pretty as the 3200 or as complete as the Gransport.
