20i oil temp

So my drive to work is 12 miles, country lanes, averaging 40-60mph.

Oil stays at 70 degrees for a while, then heats up, but only to about 90 degrees. I need to double check on tomorrows drive, but this is what I remember from when I last "noticed" it.

Does this sound right? Manual says it should goto "halfway" which I think is 110?

Similar experience here, albeit my drive to work is only about 7 miles
This time of year it only moves in the last couple of miles

The most I’ve seen mine go up to is around 120 on a hot day pushing on a bit, it’s usually around 90/100

As all the other guys say, in marked contrast to the 6 cylinder units the N20 engine in the E89 runs cooler.....as SmartBear says if you push it really really hard on a warm day it can climb to about 120, as soon as you go back to merely fast motoring it cools down quickly to around 95-100 tops...

Nice to know if you remap it👌😂🤓🙈

Thanks everyone,

Checked it this morning. It was 90 degree's when I got to work, so that sounds right.

I did check what the middle was, but now can't remember if it was 110 or 120! Anyway, if other people are getting the same figures then I'm happy.

My 2.0i is normally around 110 after about 5 or 6 miles and anywhere between 100 and 120 depending on how I’m driving it.

Well based on all other N20 engines it seems at odds...

I run into the local town about 5-6 miles away driving at between 40 and 70 all the way and lucky to hit 80f...

Maybe it’s an oil temp sensor fault? It’s integrated with the oil pressure sensor...does some fancy footwork so seems to be able to go Pete Tong...

It does sound like I could be at odds with the norm but so far (touchwood) the engine is sweet having done a very quick 1500 miles since recent purchase. I am amazed at the economy of this engine so it must be running ok.
