20i Manual ECU Tune

Hi all,

I've tried searching for previous topics, couldn't find much on it, though I could be blind....

I've seen a few 20i's with a remap pushing it from 184HP to 260HP.
I sort of feel like this is a lot of gain considering how they mapped the car stock.

Do you think this would come with problems? I'm assuming there will be addition wear throughout the car.
Talking clutch and brake wear etc.

Just wondering if it's safe to get it done, or whether something less would be the better option.

Thanks
Jason

Hi, it’s not an issue as the car is mechanically identical to the 28i model, Bmw get the extra power by mapping changes themselves

Hi Rob,

Thanks for the reply pal.
Right well, that's effectively made up my mind on doing it.

Now to find a reputable garage to do this for me nearby.

Thanks
Jason

I find even the 28i brakes fade when driven in the right spirit so id agree, if your going to use it be prepared to stop it

I have found im quite happy to drive it like a GT and save the  for the bike trackdays

I run a Celtic tune at 280bhp on my 2.0i and despite my worries have had no issue with brakes..maybe I’m just getting old...

Glad it’s not just me that thinks this ^^
Mine pulls up better than my 3.0si ever did!

Well that sucks, just had some new discs and pads put on the fronts!

Well, just don't go braking hard with the new tune on new discs and, who knows, they might well just be fine. If not, it's not bank-busting to change 'em.
