20i exhaust recommendations

So the exhaust flap has been faulty for some time on my 20i and it’s getting harder and harder to ignore.

I’ve tried a few different methods of trying to get it to shut up (think the dreaded loud rattle) but none of them have worked and as far as I’ve read it needs a full back box replacement.

So. My question is: does anyone have any recommendations for a nice rumbly back box that’ll give it some more pops and crackles? May as well try improve the sound while I’m at fixing the rattle.

Obviously needs to be a twin exit box as per the oem on to fit the bumper.

Just open the valve and get a welder to put a tack on the valve pivot, that will freeze it open, a lot cheaper than a new back box and fitting.

From what I’ve sent when I’ve had a good look it’s actually stuck open anyway so I’m not sure that’s the solution.

Are you sure it’s stuck? The quiescent state with the engine off & at idle is open :?

That was my next question, does removing the pipe leave it in the "loud" position, which I now know is open, and the answer is yes!

Don’t forget to plug the vacuum pipe and the actuator on the exhaust, it’s not a dramatic difference-just a little more “gnarley” :P

I’ve tried a few times to disconnect the pipe and it won’t budge and I can’t get under it good enough to properly get in there.

I have wondered if clamping the pipe would have the same effect?

Try getting a smallish flat blade screwdriver under the end of the pipe to break its hold, it will come off.
Clamping it would work but might damage the pipe over time :?

Endcaps arrived today and I went to do it, but couldn't see how I could get my swede and arms under the car to remove the pipe.

Does the car have to be on a ramp to do it?

Incidentally, I ordered 4mm caps and 5mm caps as I found different size recommendations on here.

Ordered these:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/5mm-End-...var=551695920238&_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649

and these:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/4mm-End-Caps-End-Covers-for-Tubes-Rods-Threads-rubber-plastic-17mm-long/254263679785?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&var=553704885848&_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649

They were only £1.95 for each pack (contains 4 caps per pack) which included free postage.

So I was pleasantly surprised to receive a REFUND of £1.06 because he sent both in the same envelope so saved him postage costs! I really wouldn't have done that, especially on such a low value order, so I highly recommend him!

Did mine without ramps, i am a svelte 17stones though :P
You don’t really need to get under the car, you can do it by feel

Ok, pulling it back on topic, has anyone fit an aftermarket back box to a 20i that they would recommend for improved sound?
