208m wheels on an E89?

My wifes mineral grey Z4 has currently got 325m wheels on which have been rattle canned black. They are a bit mucked up and just look a bit crap.

I have my eye on a set of grey 208m wheels on ebay having come off a 1 series.

Has anyone heard of anybody trying these wheels before? I have had a go on willtheyfit. And provided i can get spacers, they should.. is there anything i need to be aware of or careful of when changing wheels? I have never experimented with alternative wheels on a car before.

I remember looking at 1 series wheels before and iirc one of the drawbacks was the fronts were quite skinny, 7’s or 7.5’s. This may not be an issue depending on what tyre size you want to run but they weren’t wide enough for my set up on my E89. Different style of 1 series wheels may be different widths so may work

You're not wrong, Andy. The fronts on the 208m are 7.5 and the rears are 8.5

Where as the 325m is 8 front and 8.5 rear. Half an inch wouldn't make too much difference would it?

Its all a bridge too far IMHO,,nice as they are..

You are going to need some big spacers on the front and the front rim is too skinny for the front tyre..just where you need some precision!

So that's a no..IMHO

:(

I appreciate your input. Exactly why i posted the query.

I'd love a set of 326m's on it but they are hard to get hold of and to find a set which aren't cracked is almost impossible.

313m's will have to do

Not a bad looking wheel..IMHO..not sure what there cracking history is like..but can't be worse than 326Ms

According to this page https://www.tyres-pneus-online.co.uk/tyre-equivalence-advice.html 225mm fronts will be fine on a 7.5" rim and 255mm on an 8.5".
Don't know about the offsets, though

That's a too simplistic calculator and is aimed at 'normal' tyres..not low profile..you need a more sophisticated version..

https://www.tyresizecalculator.com/charts/tire-width-for-a-wheel-rim-size-chart..

In fact Continental recommend 8J or if you must 8.5j or 9j for their version fo a 225/40 18 tyre..

Are absolutely certain that this is a bad idea? Really fancy em

It’s a no on a few fronts ..it’s illegal on the rears with an 8J rim and 255 tyres no matter how you look at it..

But don’t let that stop you …

They certainly look nice.

Is there not something with that look, but that actually fits?

I would hold off & set up a few searches on ebay for something more likely to not lead to a pile of expensive regrets in a few weeks time :)

If money is no object & you fancy trying to figure this out / modify away to make them work (which I'm sure is possible), by all means 'crack on' & let us know how it goes!
