2018 F1 motorvehicles

Yes....yes....yes...I know, it’s boring and’t cars aren’t what they were in’t thurrrrrrlden days....but for the 3 remaining F1 fans amongst us I for one love the new cars this year now they’ve outlawed those hideous ‘shark fins’. F1 cars should look as sleek and stylish as much as they have speed imho. Who wants to look at an ugly, over the top finned and scooped bag of silliness that make a few tenths. Level playing field, rid the tee shirt hangers, fins and other nonsense as they have for this year.

I for one.....and maybe only 1.... .......am looking forward to the new season. Let’s just hope Merc have good opposition, I’m quietly optimistic.....read that as stupidity if you wish......that it’s a good season.

The new cars look superb, sleek and fast standing still. :driving:

I hadn't really looked that closely at this year's cars, but they do look a lot sleeker - and better for it!

Looking forward to this season, even if I won't see much of it on free-to-view! :(

Apart from the stupid Halo around the driver that's bound to cause as many problems as its solves. Can't wait till the26th to see free testing in Barcelona

They do look a lot better, minus the Hal would good. I think the drivers may work on getting rid of the halo, it’s dead centre in line of vision.

F1 cars should look however they need to look to be the fastest race cars in existence, it's Formula 1, not forumula nice-on-the-eyes (see what i did there, the grid girls are gone.. teehee)

I'm here to provide the token 'F1 sucks now' comment, someone has to. Always wanted to work in F1 one day, but now it's kinda dead, and being killed off further every year, thus i have no ambition to be involved in it anymore :( sad times.

Fair call Jimmy, I just think the second or so a lap the add on body kits gave them made them look ugly for something no one bar the stopwatch can tell. I like the design of cars not just the raw speed but we’re all different thank goodness.

F1, loosing interest over the past few seasons, to many rules, regulations, and zero danger. As for the drivers, lets face it, put any of the current crop of drivers into a certain team and regardless of ability they are going to be at the top of the leader board.

I’m looking forward to the season with anticipation that the teams will be more evenly matched this year. However, I am disappointed by the overall direction over the last few years, not least of all the diminishing free to air broadcast of races.
I’m not surprised the grid girls have gone and I don't feel terrible strongly about it. However, I found it somewhat strange that when I heard interviews with current and former grid girls, they wanted the role to continue, as did many of the fans and at least some of the drivers. In fact those most vocal about getting rid of them freely admitted that they didn’t follow Formula 1. One campaigner even stated that a medical student who was also an enthusiastic grid girl didn’t know she was being exploited by the terrible men who made her do it!

This year is the first year in a long time that i won't be watching all the races. At least half of last years races were boring as hell, so i've made the decision to cancel my skysports package and try not to re-activate it, despite all the ''special offers'' sky keep sending me.

The halo is disgusting and the racing is far too watered down nowadays. Literally even the tiniest brush against someones wheel gets you a penalty.

Lastly, crofty can do one. He's absolutely useless and always gets the name of the driver wrong. Unsure why he's still commentating.

Being admittedly pedantic here Jimmy but given no restrictions the designers and engineers could make these cars utterly suicidal in speed, they have to restrict them, but you know that I’m sure. The move is to generate more mechanical grip rather than aero and to clean up the looks.

Anyway as said we all have a view.

Yes but Brundle says it as it is. Best asset to Sky F1

Can’t agree more Zoomer. Brundle is the reason I pay to watch F1 daft as it sounds. Talks sense, knows his stuff like no other. I wouldn’t watch F1 if I had to watch that ‘look at me and how I’m a strutting geezer plus an over excited little boy’ Coulthard. He was two faced when he drove early in his F1 days too. Can’t believe Webber has been sucked into it, it’s like chavs r us in the pit lane!

(Tin hat on waiting for the mortar rounds to start landing..... )

I’ll be watching. Don’t like the halo but the new cars look good and the laptimes will be insane. Hope to see McLaren occasionally back in the top 5 this year and Kubica put in a few eye-catching practice times.

I'm losing interest in F1 too. I remember when I'd be up during the early hours for the fly-away races. No chance these days.

The new Formula-E cars look great though. 👍

Brundle was always good (although he never achieved much when he drove in F1), but not so good I'd pay what Sky want! :headbang:

But then I like DC, and it's always better when MW is there as well - could do with less SW, EJ and KC though. :)

And that inept Welsh presenter - Steve whatsisname. :wkr:

Got to love an optimist. It would be hilarious if Toro Roso beat them with the new Honda unit.

I'd take that result, entertainment-wise.

Hmmmmm......this could be very very interesting couldn’t it. How long will it be before Kubica’s blitzing Stroll’s times? Williams have nowhere to go on that one, they need the pennies.

The sticky point is the potential freak accident though Markalp. I don’t like the health and safety nanny state but the fact is Jules Bianchi would be alive if he had the halo. Alonso has come very close twice in the last few seasons to being decapitated, he’s very lucky he hasn’t been. It may or may not have deflected the spring that hit Massa, but freak accidents happen, it looks crap on a sleek F1 car admittedly but if saves a head trauma then.......well....can we really ignore it?

I’d rather the cars lost some aero grip, relied more on mechanical grip, went faster and were much harder to drive but also keep the drivers safe. I don’t think it’s a safety issue that’s the problem I think they’re just way too easy to drive nowadays.
