Glad to be making my first post on what appears to be a very good forum.

To my surprise there was no Sat Nav or Infotainment Screen on my new car (bought online due to lockdown). I had previously seen photos of other Z4s' having flip-up screens, so I had assumed that such things would have been standard on this model year car.

Is there anywhere on the South Coast that can do a retro fit ?

Welcome and what a lovely Zed you have! Great colour combination with a stonking engine too!
As for the nav/screen, it’s odd that BMW wouldn’t give something like that or at least a lesser version as standard or that someone didn’t spec it. But I guess not all M cars had nav from factory either, so why would they with these.

I’m sure someone will be along soon to comment about the retrofit options.

Whereabouts on the south coast are you?

Many of the 35i's were underspecced, I guess coz people had already paid a lot for the base car..

Its a pain to try and retrofit the iDrive..a big expensive, technically complex pain..

IMHO fitting one of the Android units promulgated here and elsewhere would be a lot cheaper /easier....

having not had idrive before I'm not finding it the most intuitive solution, but maybe it will grow on me too. As others have said the Android option might be your best, but it depends what you need it for. A simple dongle will get you streaming music, and a phone with a holder does a great job of satnav...

I like your colour/trim combo (my favourite after the Valencia Orange I have!) and enjoy the car..... (plus ditch the whippy and get a stubby! :fuelfire: )...

Hi and welcome, smart looking Zed you have there. iDrive was an optional extra on all E89s regardless of trim or engine same with the wind deflector and many other items.

Looks great! AnubisZed will be along shortly to guide you in the way of the android screen :P

My car has the iDrive so the android screen, while tempting, is a bit too expensive for not quite enough gain. For someone without a pre-existing iDrive, the android screen would be a great modification to do!

Welcome to the exclusive whippy club.
You're already missing an IDrive, don't lose the illustrious whippy aerial too. :D

Oooosh..

Schoolboy error..

Will cost a couple of grand to retrofit and someone with a decent knowledge of the system.

Hi and welcome to the forum.

It looks like you've already triggered the next instalment of the never-ending whippy v stubby debate!

Congrats, lovely colour. It gets a purple hue to it in some darker lights and looks a lovely medium blue in the sun !

Is she a daily or a weekend toy ?

Trying to convince myself that I don't need SatNav at the moment

dont fret and save yourself shed loads of money. Google maps is much better! Just drop your phone in the ashtray on its side and it looks kind of cool!

OK, I'll try to help - you don't need SatNav!

Admittedly it is probably way better than the one in my E86, but my Garmin is just so much quicker to set!

And how often would you use it anyway, unless the car is going to be a daily driver and you want or need to go to different destinations fairly frequently.

When I was doing business trips some years ago I probably used my Garmin once or twice a month as it has full European maps and you'd often rent a car and find they didn't have any SatNavs available.

But I know where all my mates and family live and can find most race circuits without SatNav.

I've used it once since I got the car in December, and even on the lowest volume setting it's still too bloody loud!

And anyway you've got a stunning car there, so who cares if you get lost and do a few extra miles?
