No that’s not correct…that number may be something like the number of 35i / 35is etc made ..VO is not as rare as some colours such Atacama Yellow and maybe a few others..
264 VO 35is were made. Some even had a plaque advertising this.
No idea how many 35i were made in VO. Seem to be more 35i around than 35is, but I believe more 35i were sold early in the E89 life cycle, before the 35is was available, and before VO was available. I'd guess there aren't many more VO 35i than VO 35is. But I might be wildly wrong.
While VO is slightly less rare (or less unwanted, some might say) than AY, it is of course objectively better and commands a 10% premium over all other colours.

But then there would be less VO on the car, so it would be worth less...If you add racing stripes and polka dots, it will the rarest of all VOs.

Perhaps it was dirty? It looks great in any light as long as it's clean and polished. Really suffers from dirt and lack of shine though.
