2014 R8....

I didn't think the current R8 was special at all really. It looks like a slightly stretched TT and the interior is very disappointing - same materials and style as any other Audi. Granted the V10 is immense performance wise and sound wise but I agree with Tom, at that kind of outlay I'd want something more special.

Kryton - don't get the 991 turbo, get the GT3 when it's released next year!

I'm liking that! 8)

I always had a problem with the present R8 looks! Great car but it just didn't look special enough for how much it cost! Looks like a wider TT.

Why can't BMW make something like R8 (proper V8/V10 mid-engined supercar)? They made i8 instead (much more expensive, better fuel consumption, but less powerful).

It would be a 3 cylinder supercar if BMW made it! :P

Unfortunately the GT3 usually has stiff trackday suspension and given I'm not 21 anymore  I do like a bit of comfort, but yes I'm also going to have a look at it. :driving:

The old R8 lost it's wow factor quit quickly. I had a shot in a v8 when they first came out and it did nothing for me. I was more impressed with the RS4. The engine sounded better and there was a greater sensation of power although it was slower.

I also had a chuckle at how some of the switch gear was the same as was in the A3 I had at the time along with the nav, although the same could be said of Lamborghinis at that time.

The V10 was good though. Things just happened so quick in that car.

The friend that previously had those cars currently has a gen2 997 GT3. It's just about usable as an everyday car in terms of ride. The RS he had wasn't. The Porsche dealer tried to get him on the list for the 991 GT3 but as it's PDK only he's not interested. The dealer said everyone is saying that.

It took me a long time before I sat in an R8, and I have no idea what trim levels are like in them so don't know if what I saw was representative but totally agree with you. For a £90k+ car it felt a complete let down once I got in and closed the door. Felt no sense of occasion at all, and like I could have been sat in any of the other Audis in the showroom. There was an RS5 and A7 in at the time that had all the options ticked that felt so much better.

I suppose the upside of Audi doing this is that servicing on the current R8 is cheap when you compare it to similar cars. My mate paid the same £400 for a service as I did on an A3. Compare that to the £3k service that he had on his Ferrari which was actually slower than the R8.
