As per the National Meet thread I started elsewhere, shortly after posting that, it came to my attention ( thanks Ruth/jared ,etc., for the heads up), that the Tour de FRANCE was going to be in Yorkshire dales and moors areas on the weekend of Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th of July...NO JOKE, THE TOUR DE FRANCE IS COMING TO YORKSHIRE!!
As a result, and after a few conversations etc. with John (Sammyz) on possible routes for this year, we feel that it would be a Nightmare trying to do a run as we normally do anywhere around Yorks on this w/end.
So, our thoughts are to move this years meet to the 2nd WEEKEND IN JULY, i.e (FRIDAY 11th), SATURDAY 12th AND SUNDAY 13TH OF JULY, as we feel that any road closures and increased traffic/people that will no doubt be there for the Tour de France will possibly be there in the week running up-to the event as well ??, and all Road closures, etc. should be gone by the following w/end.
Of course, the flip side is we move it away from our traditional "1st weekend in July", when wee always get great weather, and the weather isn't "guaranteed" on another weekend, lol.
Taking this on-board we felt we should put it to a vote for those already showing their intention to attend...so here are the options.....
1.Move it to the 2ND Weekend in JULY, the Friday 11th(just for a catch-up for those who want/are able) with the DRIVES ON SATURDAY 12TH (LAKES DRIVE) AND SUNDAY 13TH (YORKS DALES/MOORS DRIVE)......with the usual BBQ ,Raffle etc as always(weather permitting) on the Saturday.
2. Move it to the Last w/end in JUNE, being Fri/SATURDAY/SUNDAY 27TH,28TH,29TH....though me and John feel this could still be an issue regards our proposed Yorks run on the Sunday.(due to roads being closed or crowded in the run-up to the tdf)
3.Keep it as Fri/SATURDAY/SUNDAY the 4TH,5TH,6TH AND do the Lakes on the Saturday (which hopefully/shouldn't be too adversely affected by the TDF, BUT HAVE TO SCRAP OUR DALES RUN ON SUNDAY, AND COME UP WITH AN ALT ROUTE IN A DIFFERENT AREA??, which would mean we would miss out on some of our fav roads/passes! EG. Buttertubs etc.
Mine and Johns preffered choice would be the 2nd WEEKEND IN JULY...BUT PLEASE LET US KNOW BY VOTING ON THIS THREAD...THANKS
Once we have all the votes, within the next week, I will re-book the Campsite, Hotel for Fri nt meal as appropriate, cheers
