2013 SatNav map update for 2009 E89

I have the "BMW Professional Navigation" and I believe the maps on it are the 2012 ones.

I'm tech-savvy so I'd be interested to understand the steps required to update my car to the latest maps without going through the dealer.

What I can't seem to work out is:
a. Where to download the Navigation DVD ISOs from
b. How to obtain an 'FSC code' - I understand that I'll need one of these after I install the latest maps?

Edit: I've just managed to source a set of "BMW Road Map Europe PREMIUM 2014-1" DVDs. Presumably this is what I need?
 
I think the thing to understand here is that the non dealer route is illegal. The codes are supplied by third parties that make profit at BMW's expense. FSC license codes and MAP data are copyright. Taking the map data for free could well be theft, I've no idea if the map data is available FOC as I've only ever seen it charged for. Getting an FSC code is theft if not from a dealer (at least currently) as this is the license that is paid for to use the map data and BMW take a cut of this before passing the rest onto the mapping company. When you get the code from elsewhere, BMW make no money (hence theft) but instead pay the license fee to the mapping company, a cost only transaction.

Just sayin ... :D

You are absolutely correct. But, at circa £200 for an FSC for each map update, who's 'stealing' from whom?
 
Well you could argue the work done to get the map data in, the resources, tech etc... but I agree its steep. I was quoted £125 from Williams in Manchester.

In any event... its how the courts would see it?

I cant agree that bmw/dealers are 'stealing' its what they have decided its worth , no one is twisting your arm to buy it after all

yes I agree to some extent but as the code is something that you can only officially get from them they can hold the customer to ransom as it was in the days before the rules on servicing having to be done by main agents were changed
