So, had the car about 6wks now and love it... the drivers side wing mirror developed a bit of a wobble which I meant to get around to fixing, but this morning on the way to work it started tilting to the sky and flew off down the dual carriageway (sorry to the Defender behind me!) :headbang:

I've had a look on here and the wider WWW and it seems like they are heated which weakens the glue (hmmm!) - I didn't realise they were heated so assume they been replaced previously with non heated versions?!?

I've seen a few posts where some people say there's some metal spring clip type of thing and wiggle it with a screwdriver from the bottom (oooer!) and others just say pull it off (hmmm!).

Anyone got a proper idea?

TIA!
Dave

There is a spring clip at the bottom that holds the mirror back in place…in theory a screw driver can release it..bit like the steering wheel airbag..

I tried and tried and gave up..sold the car instead

I just looked at mine, seems like a beige film over it -- is that normal antiglare or burnt up film?

---Tilt mirror glass up with the door control as far as it will go...
---use a tool to bend the wire ends towards middle in direction indicated
---once it releases, tilt it up and lift if off.
---if heated, you'll have to remove the connector to the heating cable.

Wow I have the wobbly mirror glass and it has annoyed me for years. Will try this

Sell the car ..that’s what I did

4 years and 30,000 miles ..I tried to remove it several times..

New car mirrors doesn’t wobble

It’s the only good thing on the new car.. :tumbleweed:

Well I thought it was getting worse on my Euro trip, barely attached at the top, it just peeled off. You can see the two prongs that need to be squeezed together at the bottom. Just cleaned the surface and superglued it back on. See how long that lasts.

There some simple VIN/VO code maths on that besides looking for the part number on the back?

Stash.. may just want to replace. <£14 in Bristol.... (I don't know if your part is heated/dimming/etc)

Flying glass would be horrible if it caused issue to drivers behind you admiring the Zed at speed.

Or apparently just go buy a yellow one? :poke:

Yes

So the new mirror arrived in the post 5 mins ago... Got my leatherman and keys and went out to the car in the minor hope that I wasn't following B21!

Tried thinking that it was just a "standard" circlip and pulled the prongs together... no.
Then I remembered the photos of the back and tried the outer side first by pushing the prong into the middle and to the front of the car (whilst teasing the mirror across from the outside with my hand)... ping, it released! Get in!
Go to the other side and do the same and... ping it released! Get in!!!

The new one just has plastic lugs to hold it in rather than the metal clip and it just popped in!

So now got a shiney new mirror and all in about 5 mins!
:D :D :D :D :D
