Hi,

Just been quoted £225 for a first service on my Zed.

Oil change and microfilter replacement etc.

Is this the going rate? Seems quite a lot for a basic oil change on a four cylinder car.

Anyone put their car through it's first service recently? And if so what price where you quoted?

Cheers

Hi Morry

I'm in the same boat and booked in for its first service for this Friday. I didn't ask the cost as tend to use same dealer lol.

I was trying to find out whether the brake fluid and antifreeze need changing as they normally do at 2 years, the service book doesn't say. I've looked at the on board computer and says brake fluid will be at 3 years but still can't find anything for the antifreeze. The garage mentioned on the phone they will know from the key fob so I dont know if this holds more info than the onboard computer. Seems daft taking it back in another 12 months just for brake fluid.

I would say around £190 for just oil change so seems expensive.

Tim.

Thanks for the feedback folks - I had thought along the lines of £170-£180 anyway.

So I guess its not a million miles away!

I have organised a courtesy car as well and it looks like I will end up in a Mini or a 1 series - hoping for the Mini tbh as it could be a decent drive :)

I was offered the service package at the time, however my plan was always just to run the car for the 4 years and move on.

So with potentially only one service (2 at most) it would have come out at the same or similar cost to the service package (which I recall was approx £400-£450) at the time.

Plus between that and the 'tyre insurance' they were trying to push it was an additional £900 odd overall which I felt was rather a lot of money for very little in return!

I do not do big miles (approx 6k a year) so did not think either was worth it.

Cheers

Brake fluid should also be changed every two years. Is this also on the list to be done??

The cost quoted is assuming they don't want to change anything else. It's condition based servicing so if something needs attention they will want to get it sorted.

With my Z3 BMW recommend every 2 years, when I asked service this morning for the E89 they weren't sure but thought it was 3 years, when I checked my cars OBC later it says mine is due for brake fluid in March 2015, oil service is due now as the Zeds 2 years old. I don't know how BMW can say its 3 years as the longer its left the chances of water getting in increases. I would rather have the brake fluid done with the oil service as I bet they will charge more to do it seperately

Tim.

for anybody that missed this last time I posted it:-

this was the bill last month for the first service on my 28i. still don't understand the spark plug bit, but as I have the service pack I wasn't paying anyway.

That'll be it Tim. It's all money making, a lot cheaper to do the two together. BMW always used to swear by it being two years, funny that my E88 which was a 2009 model still had 2 year changes but the E89 which I would say would use the brakes a bit more is 3 years. Bizzar!

£750 for inspection 1 so dont worry urself, its a BMW so wont be cheap with anything

That's more than M prices so you're being ripped off if it's for E85/86 non M, and E89 don't use Inspections.

Thanks for posting up that service invoice dr.John :)

Makes for interesting reading - spark plug 'service' at the first service interval? Sounds like nonsense to me tbh.

You can get 5l of Shell Helix Ultra Extra 5W-30 for approx £37 (Ebay for eg)

And I note that there is no mention of brake fluid being changed on there.

£330 for a simple first service oil/filter change is OTT imho - however as you say with your service pack at least you did not pick up the tab.

Finally got the Zed back this morning 24hrs after dropping it off for an oil change lol

So an oil change, microfilter and free software update came to £221.

Asked about the antifreeze and they just check its strength and if ok its not changed. Not convinced its good practice :|

Seems they want the car back in 12 months for the brake fluid change.

Well,

Total bill came to £241 (which includes a days hire of a courtesy car).

Happy with that and the service I received overall was courteous and efficient :)

They also did the software update too whilst they were at it.

All went well then! :)

What did they actually do? Sounds like the same as my bill, except for the spark plug bit. Mine is a 28i, maybe they get through plugs more rapidly, although new plugs at 24 months/12k miles seems a bit excessive.
