Hi hope you can help me with this dilema.

Having recently seen a very attractive 2012 Z4 2.0i s-drive m-sport roadster to buy, I was warned by another Z4 owner, who has a 2007 model, that the 4 cylinder models, of which this is one, are not as good as the six cylinder models. He didn't offer a reason why, so can anyone enlighten me as to why he claimed the 6 cylinder models were better than the 4 cylinders?
It has made me cautious about purchasing this car. Your comments would be very much appreciated. Thanks.

I think it's just a character/sound the 6 cylinder engines have that makes some people not like the 4 cylinders as much, I'm sure they perform very well & if you like it then go with your own convictions
Ps, put pics on here when you get one!

Hi Rob

Many thanks for that, it is reasuring, some people can knock the edge of things and make you doubt your judgement taking the initial pleasure out of the vehicle that you liked.

PS may now go and ask for a test drive!

Hi Marcus

I have the 2015 version of the same model you have seen, I too was not sure about this or the 3.0l but it depends what you want it for. IMHO the smaller engine is still great fun but you do not get the same sound or grunt that the 3.0l will offer. Saying that i love my 2.0l its 184hp is plenty for me and i still find i have to be very gentle with the right pedal when trying to stay in the speed limits.

All i can say is test drive a couple and see what you like. The grass is always greener on the other side. Use your gut feel go for it and above all enjoy! :D

Don't let anyone change your mind- yes the 6cyl is a more exciting car but the 2.0 is still a very good and fun car. :driving:

Its annoying when people who are ill informed started bleating on like this no matter how helpful they think they are being. The engine in the car your looking at is an N20 series with the older 2007 E85 having a N46 series. They are completely different engines with the later N20 series also being turbo charged. So in one sense the 2007 owner is right the I6 engines are better and much more reliable in the E85's, its of no relevance to you and the E89 your looking at, Obviously the I6 in the E89 is the superior performing engine with a better sound but that doesn't make the 2.0T N20 I4 a bad one. Hope that puts your mind at rest.
