2012 E89 Z4 20i Sdrive Msport - remap

Hi all

Well I suppose this is a bit of an introducton as I just picked up my E89 this morning after trading in my E92 320d Msport Coupe. The more I drive the Z4, the more I am getting to like it. There is not that many on the road which I is a huge plus in my eyes.

I will take a while to get to really know the car but the engine seems to be a BMW gem which is used in many marques under different names like 20i, 28i, 123i, 328i but is actually the same engine. I have been looking to see wat Ecu rempas are available but have not had much luck so far. I would love to push my cars respectable 184bhp upto approx 200>. Can anyone offer any advice on this and recommend any other useful resources, suppliers of bits, accesories etc etc... you get the picture I think.

Cheers

Hi jazzflask welcome to the forum
Haven't got any advice regarding a remap but i'm sure some one will
Also this is traditional :worthless:

If you wanted 200+bhp you should have bought a 2.3 with 6 cylinders :poke: The major players in ECU remaps should have got on this by now even if they don't list it on their website it may be worth ringing them and asking the question.

I can see the benefits of mapping the 4 cylinder turbo. More torque, improved mpg and performance over the comparable 6cyl lump. Kinda win win  Wouldn't bother myself.

Hey guys, thanks for the replies. I will do some research on the info you gave me. The main concern be not damaging the engine etc as a result of a remap.

I will get some pics on to let you see. Anyone use this Tapatalk app on here?

It says on the website the tuning box works within the engines existing running parameters for reliability which is all very well, however I would want to know if there is any difference between the 2.0 and 2.8 regarding gearbox, turbo, cooling system etc as its all too easy to gain more performance but sh*g the rest of the car.

For a measly £300 it's certainly providing bang for bucks,as those pesky yanks would say.I believe,(i have been wrong many times) that the only difference between the 2.0 and 2.8 is the injectors and the mapping of the ECU.Gearbox, cooling, brakes, suspension are all the same.Personally,i would worry myself sleepless all the time it was under warranty.Good luck.

Think I have sussed the picture uploads! If so, welcome to my new E89 :)

Coming from the jap car scene when remapps are the norm I'd say I'd only ever go for a custom/live map.

This will be specific for your car and will maintain the reliability, just turning the dials upto 11 in the case of a predetermined chip or map can cause problems, I'll get mine done at some point but for evening out the curve rather than an increase in power which on mine would be feck all
