2011 Z4 Road Trip

If you sail from Hull and say the ferry cost is £350 and the road trip from Saddleworth is say 80 miles v the £100 ferry / Tunnel and a 280 mile journey and adding an overnight stay this side or soon after landing in France, at say £70 a night. Then by my "sums" its £380 via Hull or £350 via Dover + Tolls in France.

Do you really want to do 280miles in the UK - and worse still 280 back home when the holiday has ended!

PS, No I don't work for a ferry company.

worth considering then, thanx

advantage is i go through more countries, disadvantage is i hate sailing urgh, i easy get travel sick, i can only do car journeys if i am the driver

Join the ferry at Hull and a great chunk is a park lake type sail down the Humber! If you are a bad sailor - Stay on deck as long as possible or just take to your bunk. To be honest my wife is a real land lubber and hates the prospect of a bad or even a slightly ripple of a crossing - but we have not had one yet. (there's the kiss of death!)

We have done the Tyne, Hull and Dover crossings and my choice would be in that same order every time!

Whichever you choose book the crossing NOW - Vat is going up, Fuel prices are geting worse an the prices will go up as well. We booked our crossing for £350 for this year against £395 last years price.

Help needed

Having booked 2 weeks holiday for April next year I am considering a road trip to and around europe.

So, I know there are quite a few on here who have done this themselves, I also know there are post on here too. Over the next few weeks I will have a good read of them. In the mean time I would appreciate any tips i.e. best routes, roads, stop overs, sights etc

Fanks,

Your lovin Taz

Whatever you do I recommend a day in München and visit the BMW "Die Welt", The Museum and time permitting a factory tour. It is all as you know in the same area by the Olympic Stadium. Then to top off the day have a nice meal downtown in the Hofbräuhaus House.

Cheers :)

I've driven half way round the world - twice and just learned that Saddleworth is oop North! I thought it was in Essex!

Yes :P

But I hate driving on British motorways, getting from the BMW lane to the loser lane for exits is a nightmare :fuelfire:

i have booked my holidays

going to go on 5th August and return 19th August, Eurotunnel is looking favourite

Got two trips booked already this year, 4 days in Southern Ireland in April and 10 days in NW France in July. :driving:

Make sure your fillings in your teeth are good and well stuck in if your going to the south of Ireland in the zed! :)

Eurotunnel?

Just about to book Eurotunnel, slightly confused, does it not matter how many people are in the car? there is no question about passengers

Have already considered taking the Passat, will see how the weathers looking closer to the time

I went there a few years ago - I took the caravan behind my shogun - I lost countless bits of trim due to the bumping and banging the caravan got on those roads.

Stunning scenery, black stuff and very hospitable folk to compensate!

bump

just been reading through this again, thanks for all your help

anybody else got any input?

You can lose yourself in the roads around the lakes in Italy for a week alone quite easily. Have you got a wish list of where you want to end up? You mentioned Austria or are you still considering into the former yugoslavia.
