So recently I got back from this years adventure which involved myself, my good lady and the trusty Z4. (2003 3.0i).
The trip was to Corsica, the route: Stafford to Dover, Dunkerque to Luxembourg for cheap fuel and hotel, Luxembourg to Bern, Bern To Grindelwald (a truly beautiful place), Grindelwald to Livorno, originally intended to go via Furka pass but an avalance/ rock fall closed a road leading up to it so had to find an alternative pass which was brilliant (lovely smooth road, loads of fast corners, chicaines, hairpins but terrible weather which made the white lines very interesting). Livrono was horrible at rush hour and I was scared! overnight stop was ok with secure parking. Got the ferry the next morning to Bastia, spent 5 days touring Corsica driving not as good as I had hoped mainly because I could not see enough to overtake and my girlfreind would not say ok unless there was a mile of free space (arguements occured).
After Corsica we took the ferry back to Livorno then Blasted up towards Lake Como (Imagna Valley I think) via Tuscany, lovely hotel. Next morning we set off and headed for St Mortiz for lunch, then Juliet pass (quite tame really) to a small village and lake near Zurich. Next was a long blast up North to Ghent (took ages a good 8-9 hours), gent was beautiful and the hotel great with massive undergound carpark to make noise in. Next morning we got lost in gent and ended up in the main square where cars are not allowed... trams from a number of directions... very embarassing..
Then back to Dunkerque, Dover and home.
A brilliant trip and once again the Z4 was brilliant in every way, took everything we could throw at it, turned loads of heads everywhere we went. Up until Switzerland the avergae was 43MPG, this dropped to 41MPG by Livorno then dropped to 39.2MPG in Corsica where it remained for the rest of the trip... I would say 37MPG was the overall MPG.
The new Spark plugs I fitted (NGK eridiums) made a vast improvement with smoothness and MPG, last years road trip (similar driving) only yielded 35MPG.
Fallen in love with my trusty Z4 all over again!
