I heard through rumor mill next Z4/Z5 will be built in Germany? I had the luxury of meeting senior management at BMW and they of course where hush__________I would go out and say that it is a strong change the new Z will be built in Germany!!!!!!!!!!!!

If that is the case, we might be paying a ton more of $$, EURO, LBS for the nest rev?

Rumors seem to be pointing at the Z4 as we know it being split into a higher priced line (Z6?) and an entry level Z2 line. Let’s face it, the current Z4 line has been anything but a runaway success for BMW so I can understand why BMW might adopt that strategy.

I personally will be disappointed if that happens since I find the current Z4 to be the perfect blend of styling, performance and price. I am also doubtful of the Z2 succeeding since the market will have a certain base level expectation for quality and performance from a BMW that will be hard to deliver at an entry level price point (recall the Z3 fell victim to the same malady). And while BMW may have success marketing a more limited, upscale Z6, it will most likely leave me looking at other marks.

The Z4, in the UK anyway, is priced equally with an equivalent spec SLK or Audi TT/S so I can't see them bumping it up much more. At the end of the day, when you can get a top spec MX-5 / Miata for $/£ 20k then there's only so much you can get for a roadster. I think £35k for a moderately specced 3.0 with 265-300bhp is the most they'll get.

I could see an upscale Z6 being pushed into the Boxster S - Cayman S territory (i.e; $60,000 - $70,000).

They're already that here for the Z4, the Z4M was about £4k more than a Boxster S, although a bit faster and better specced, so when they were evened out with specification they were about the same. That's why I think the current prices are a ceiling for the Z4.

The only way they'll get more money here is to drop the V8 in, and they'll maybe get close to £50k which is what the SLK55 AMG retails for, but I doubt the residuals will match, unfortunately.

True enough ... I suspect we will see a bigger jump on this side of the "pond" though ... we can still buy a nicely equiped Z4 in the low $40's and if you shop around you can get an ///M in the high $40's. Your easily looking at $10k+ more for a Boxster/Cayman.

Ah so it sounds like you're going to get an increase over there, maybe BMW wanted to increase the prices anyway, but with them being made in Europe you're going to be a bit more dependent on the strength of the dollar than previously. I never realised there was such a jump to a Porsche there, I thought they were closer than that.

Over here, you only get a 2 year warranty on the Porker though.

somthing similar to the current coupe shape + a hard top fold away roof would be the perfcet combo for me... so i quite like the look of this latest spy shot :)

I like it!

Is it just me or is it starting to look more like a mercedes SLK? Maybe it's because of the hard top.

While I'm liking it so far, I'm skeptical. The z4 was initially hated for it's hard lines and shapes. But this is what made it unique and in my opinion...led to it's popluarity. it's a head turner!!! Whatever they do, I just hope it doesn't start looking "average" and just like everything else.

Lastly, I LOVE the idea of of the hardtop...BUT I refuse to sacrifice trunk/boot space!!!! That's what convinced me to buy the Z4 in the end. Not only was it beautiful, but becuase of the trunk size, it's actually functional.

I'd have to agree on that... hard top is cool but as it is my only car I do rely on the boot (trunk) space a lot

With the hard top the boot is still big, my SLK is the same size as the Z4, but the only difference is you need to put the roof back up to get anything out past the plastic cover, which is a pain but less of a problem than you think.

That doesn't look too bad... I just hope the next gen Z will not move away from the Z4 Roadster look... the wedge look and instead evolve more "boxy," like the 1 series, which I'm not crazy about. And if I wanted an SLK, I'll get one. I hope BMW keeps that in mind too.
