How do you find the Eibach lowering springs with the 18" wheels? Any difference to the ride quality? What's the dream car you are going for? GLWTS!

I first went to Eibach's first with the OEM 19" and runflats and I'd say no noticeable difference in the ride quality, of course handling\feel was improved. The biggest difference\improvement was achieved by fitting the much lighter 18" wheels and of course non runflats. From memory I saved 3kg per corner.

New car collected at the weekend :driving: :driving:

Last bump before paying for extortionate AutoTrader fees.

Nice replacement, looks like a nice sunny day to enjoy the new purchase. Spent quite a few very happy years in Aberdeen before emigrating to NZ. My best friends in the world still live in Aberdeen.
GLWTS, looks a well kept Z.

Very nice replacement, JLR garage has just opened near my house and I walk past it most days.

The F type always get my attention.

Bump.....

Although do wonder if the F-type has long term stay potential, quite a few niggles, build quality isn't a patch on BMW, but huge smiles per miles....

What sort of niggles and how is the build quality not as good? Love the look of these cars, but there's something about them that puts me of.. I guess its the lack of german engineering? They look and sound absolutely incredible though!

There's nothing major and looking forward to sorting them all out over time.... I have to remember it is almost a 7 year old car, but the Z4 feels as solid as I suspect it did when it left the factory...

  • Headlining on soft-top above drivers head rattles\creaks like hell, you can see the previous owner has stuffed a cloth in the there to try to quieten it down, unsuccessfully
  • There's a creaking coming from the front wheels when turning at slow speed (now sorted, was loose arch liner)
  • Exhaust valves make a horrible noise when the car starts up for about 20 seconds, I've read up on this and will lubricate them (sorted for now)
  • Drivers door speaker rattles and vibrates as soon as there's some bass. The Jaguar fix is for the subwoofers I think, not the door speakers
  • Engine stop\start button worn (replaced)
  • You just about about have to break your thumb to engage cruise control, the steering wheel control buttons really don't work
  • Rear camera picture is shocking, even after cleaning it you can hardly see anything, like reversing into a bank of fog
  • Heated seats take an age to warm up and never get truly hot, perhaps just the way it is

Strange about the camera. The one on my XF is very good, as long as it's clean. I wonder if internal condensation is possible on them?

My XF seats take an age to warm up too, but they do get fairly hot. Too hot on max in fact. They are also cooled so use, I believe, a Peltier effect element and blow the heated or cooled air around the seat base and back. If yours has this I've read the air ducts can come adrift over time and the hot/cold air doesn't get to where it's meant to.

Coming from a 2003 Lexus LS I was pretty disappointed with the build quality of the XF, though it remains the best looking cabin I've ever sat in. Overall though the car goes, steers, and rides very well (even on 20s) so I mostly forgive it.

Here's what I emailed a mate at the weekend... (I should really start a separate thread)

So the F-type…. One word.. Epic!

Not quite as mad as the V8 with 550bhp I had on hire, in fact no-where near it, but it feels so so special to drive and look at, absolutely love it. So many amazing detailed touches on the car, for example to engine stop\start button pules at 72 beats per minutes, same as the resting hear rate of a Jaguar. The vents rise up from the dash when you start the car, door handles pop out when unlocking, interior lighting\dials etc change to red when you put it into dynamic mode …. Lots of subtle Jaguar logos\badges all over the place…

It's super short geared which I love, 2nd is just over 50mph, 3rd tops out at 80mph…
It’s loud, really loud for a production car.. a little overkill at times, but there’s a button to silence it
Torque from the supercharger is impressive, but still likes to rev out.. shame there’s no charger whine…
ZF8 changes are really snappy, wouldn’t know it’s an auto…
Nice to be back in a car with hydraulic steering again
Feels old school, but loaded with modern technology at the same times
Ride is really good for 20” rims, was planning to downsize as I normally do, but leave the suspension in normal and it’s very compliant
Can really feel the LSD working, reminds me of the Z4M the way it moves about

The only downside (other than terrible fuel consumption) is I worry about the build quality, clearly not the same as the German rivals with a few creaks and the speakers rattle when turned up loud. Not so worried about the mechanics, but perhaps electric gremlins, although keeping it on a trickle charger seems to keep them away according to the forums… Smiles per miles is much higher than anything I’ve had before… Just hope it’s a keeper, incredible value.. Got a years warranty, so will see how it works out…

You can get a hard pipe kit if you want to hear the supercharger whine noise.

The standard pipework has an noise reducer in place to stop the noise.

RE fuel....

Its seems i can get 22mpg on the daily commute and just hacking about, but can get 40mpg + on a quiet run on the motorway..

Interesting, I'll need to look into that thanks. Is it a OEM part or aftermarket?

Yeah I average around 22mpg when not going crazy, but only got 30mpg on my 400 miles drive back home after collecting it, steady 78-80mph with cruise control, absolutely no where near 40mpg, although tyres were down to 31/32psi all round, no up at the recommended 36psi, but can't see it making that much difference.

Like you say, shouldnt make that much difference, think they should be 38psi (ish) shouldnt they ?

The hardpipe kit is aftermarket,Jag tuning takes a bit more looking into than BMW... Not a lot of people doing a great job and not a whole host of options.

Its not that easy to get into the 40's....Probably more 68-73mph zone and cruise isnt always the best way to get best MPG..Im not even sure what the "official" figures are on the car, cant see coupe/vert making much difference either.
