For 2 cars with identical spec & condition, an 09 plate with 60,000 miles or an 06 with 10,000 miles, which would be more desirable?
The 06. Low miles everytime if all else equal.

Yep. The low miler would need a mint service history though, with at least oil and brake fluid changes every 2 years, right ?

Yip! But depends on what your buying it for. To keep in a garage in the hope it's value starts to climb or to use it? I know that as someone who does 2k or less a year buying a well maintained car with high millage and lower costs for me would be a better investment than someone buying a car who maybe puts 20/30k on their 'low millage' one over that time.

For me I'd want a bit of both, hence choosing the low miler in this scenario. If the service was spot on and both cars were equal I'd be silly not to pick the 06 car even though it's 3 years older. Consider the formula for this type of increasingly collectible car; it's future value and relative mileage I think outweigh the fact it's 3 years older than a higher mileage car.

My MR is 47k on an 06 plate and with FSH. Its in my possession to drive (yes I know I need to do more of that!) but I also know that it's value is intrinsically linked to the condition, rarity of spec and mileage I maintain it at. If/when I come to sell I know I'll be able to get the best price I can for it because of that. In my head, if I'm going to spend a significant amount of money on a second hand car I want to make sure it provides me with a good +/- rate of interest if I change my mind or am forced to sell.

Realistically I would image the value vs a higher mileage newer car would only be a nominal amount at the moment but as these cars become rarer and higher mileage, so increases value. See 'Exhibit M Coupe' in recent months

When I advertised mine for sale I set a price that I was not prepared to negotiate on.I didn't think it was excessively high or too cheap.
My method of thinking was if someone was coming to look at this kind of car they will more than likely know what they are looking for, have done a bit of research
on price's etc.
If you know your car is good and honest and not hiding anything nasty I would say its quite easy to value.Just be honest.

I did exactly the same with my roadster. Priced to sell and wouldn't budge.

Cannae be doing with all this haggling rubbish.

Paid the asking price for my coupe too...

I personally get your logic as I for one would be prepared to pay more to buy the last of a "potentially" collectable model (if I was on the hunt).

But how long had it been sitting unregistered?

There have been one or two on here that have sat for 18 months before being registered.

I didnt think any Z's had a build date in 2009?
Build date is irrelevant.
It's all about 09 plate bragging rights.

I'd say £15 - 17.5k depending on a thorough examination of the service history re the running-in service, dates, exact work done and whether or not it's the Insp 2 that's due. Most importantly the actual condition up-close, inside and out.

If it was all spot-on the mileage would look good to me, enough to ensure it's been used sufficiently but not leggy. I'd certainly view it if I was in the market

(which I'm not, really not, I would be killed..... why did I view the thread, what's with the Autotrader search. Stop  )

Personally I would go for 6 week autotrader ad....stick it on for 18.5k, and see if you get any inquiries at all in the first two weeks....if not then go down to circa 17.5k....

Thanks for the replies gents.

I am losing my job later this year and the car was due for keeping/changing in September.

On the basis that as yet I am unsure when I may actually be out of work, I am looking to perhaps sell it and pay the balloon off.

It really will break my heart if I need to get rid of it as I had it in mind to keep this car forever - it has no equal as far as I am concerned for the performance per £.

The next service by the way is an oil service not an inspection 2. It leads an easy life, the mpg has always shown 25mpg even with the odd blast. It only get used at the weekend (we tend to go along way at the weekends) and the odd time to commute on the motorway.

The car has 2 sets of wheels too as I mentioned - CSL reps with new rear tyres and the front have 5mm at least and the standard ones with 1/2 worn continental tyres (they came off the car at 15K miles).

No new discs/pads yet as these were not needed at the Inspection 1.

Your combined views have perhaps confirmed that £17K seems about right at the moment and the car's rare 09 plate status may carry this perhaps.

Fingers crossed I get binned soon and get another job before September!
