2009 vs 2011 Z4 35i

My 2009 E89 is still getting repaired (electrical JB failure) amd I bitched at BMW and told them I wanted somthing to drive. As luck would have it the only thing they could find was a 2011 35i with 750kms on the clock :thumbsup: (Havana with black Interior)

I have a Dinan stage II remap in my '09 so I definitely have way more jump but the interesting thing is that the new one has no noticeable turbo lag compared to my '09. :thumbsup: It's really quite nice at lower rpm. the rest of the car is identical other than the new one has run flats and mine has Conti sport 3's ( the new one wanders all over the place , might have too much air in the front??)

all told, the 2011 is a very nice drive.

Can you remember what your car was like before the re-map, has the re-map introduced the lag? Also, out of interest, in what way has the Dinan improved the drive of your current Zed, is the torque increase more noticeable?

It always had lag, I switched from an M3 to the Zed so I saw it right away. I think the newer turbo design is an improvement for low end performance .....

More torque (lots more)
More HP ( 84)
more responsive, no limiter, sounds better (it has a lower rumble).

IMO: The new one is a touch better than the original so I wonder how a Dinan remap would be in one, probably pretty nice :D :driving:
 
I though the engines were identical? Same N54?

From what I've read there have been no changes until the N55 with the new twin scroll turbo.. As yet not fitted to a Z4..

I'm going with what the service writer told me, ( he could be an idiot ?) it does seem to be less turbo lag though but I will be able to tell better when I get my car back , hopefully sometime next week (Tuesday I expect). Might just be a software upgrade I haven't had yet ... ??
