That seems a little harsh to me. I think you have been very unlucky hear Andrew.

I dont like warranty's and i service my cars myself for this reason. I would have saved the 2k repair bill.

What exactly was modified about the oil filter?

I'd also be having a word with Cooper as to why this would have happened so soon after they had the engine in bits.
 
that was before my ownership, It was an independant in Buckinghamshire. To be honest I dont think there is much point in going in to it considering they have refused to pay for the whole job, paid for the bottom end to be rebuilt but wont pay for anymore anyway.

Mine must have no cam lobes left at all then as I've done over 150 laps of the 'Ring, a couple of track days a year, and a whole morning of drifting at Oulton Park :o

They told you that driving on a toll road at high speed would knacker your engine?

That is the biggest load of shi t I have heard. They have the ring taxis. Do they replace the engine daily then?

Was the car serviced by Russell @ Knights?

Can't be easy letting it go but as others have said, strip and sell the mods then advertise at a lower price.

£12k & £3k+ fix and still not guaranteed to be sorted is quite a risk.

Have to agree, total rubbish. It wouldn't have caused the problem, but it made the actual problem come to the fore potentially. There's no doubting if your going to put the engine through its paces with a track day or similar it needs to be in tip top condition, oil topped up to co/recently rrect level, correct grade oil/filter (although not convinced a non gen filter would cause that big of an issue). Preferably fresh/recently changed oil as well. Letting the oil cycle round the engine a bit before switching off after a good run would also be a good idea. In any case, many have done lots of track days with no issues, so there's no fact behind what they are saying at all.

They are a warranty company and their sole aim is to make money. Any get-out of paying for a claim is gold for them. Unfortunately the OP has given them several which they have used to kick his claim into touch. Fact is track driving will cause extra wear to an engine and as you state if not properly looked after. Even Lotus with their cars which are arguably track cars have limits to what they will pay out on if driven on track.

The terms and conditions of the warranty listed below must be adhered to. Failure to do so will result in the rejection of a claim or the termination of your BMW Insured Warranty. This does not affect your statutory rights.

1. When servicing your BMW, failure to comply with the service schedule recommended by BMW may invalidate this warranty. All service and warranty work must be carried out by an Authorised BMW Dealer or BMW Service Authorised Workshop using only Genuine BMW Parts. Your BMW Service Booklet should be stamped, dated and detailed with the correct mileage at the time of service by the servicing dealer.

That's a tricky one as the warranty was issued after the servicing discrepancies. They probably shouldn't have issued it in the first place...

6. This BMW Insured Warranty will not cover:
an insured vehicle used for courier or private hire services, track days, off road use, competitions or racing of any kind.

Can't really get round that one now.
 
Just think all those people who own M cars with active warranty's. Who cant use there M cars as they where designed to be used. And how all there adverting suggests how they can be used......

Yup its a joke! Especially when you think about the demo cars that Journos get. Chris Harris on his vids at some point a punter will buy that car. err... and people wonder why others hide their plate details.
 
Just dont tell them that the car has been tracked..

The induction kit will void any warranty....

The oil filter is a unusual point... They are saying that the number of filtering fins was incorrect,suggesting that wouldnt be filtering the oil correctly... Interesting in that if you (or your indy) fits a non OEM filter then we could fall foul under warranty..

I would like to see what oil filter was fitted,and what the actual fin differences are... :?
