2008 - Roof / Temperature Sensor

Hiya,

So i've just bought my long awaited z4 and there's few problems for an old car.

However the temperature sensor is consistently showing -25 degrees, which even in NW England seems unlikely for July. I've also read that this problem can prevent the car from operating the roof for safety reasons.

Thankfully im in warranty, so the issue should get fixed, however before i go to the garage, im just curious if anyone has experienced this before and if there's a quicker way to fix it (its an hour each way).

So anything taking less than 4 hours, or less than £20, it's basically a win for me as i'd use more time / fuel just getting the car there.

Cheers

-25 is the default temperature if the temp sensor or wiring is faulty. It’s an inexpensive part to replace and easy DIY, but if it’s warranty, get the garage to sort it out.

Have a look under your front bumper towards the left hand side and you should see an indent in one of the corner plastic pieces and inside of that indent you should see a massive nipple. That should be your temperature sensor, I think you can access it from inside of the fog light access holes.

These threads may be of assistance.

NOTE: Autodoc take about 14 days from order to delivery so it may be worth the drive to your specialist to get it sorted.

Or this is the point where you look under the front and find the LH splash guard is missing and the temperature sensor wire is just dangling. :?

As for the roof, have you tried operating it?

Hi all,

thanks for the replies, will update my findings:

1: the roof and temperature sensor are defintely linked. The sensor must be loose or faulty, but not fully gone as once i raised the temp up past -20, the roof worked absolutely perfectly
2: With the roof down, the 'bottom' temp is actually -40 oddly
3: Thankfully the splash guard and everything seems intact, so the sensor may just need adjusting, but on the safeside, replacing.
4: i will get the garage to do the work, but since i know this is the fault i'll try save myself time by booking a slot once they have the part and from what ive seen online it's a 30-45 min job, assuming theres no damage to anything else
5: I still love the z4, but 2nd fault in 2-3 weeks - thankfully it's a full 3 month warranty on top of the general consumer rights stuff
