Hi, i am hoping to look at a 2008 Coupe si with 8500 miles next week...

1 - considering the car is 3 years old but has only done 8500 miles, what service(s) should have been carried out...

2 - is there anything else that you need to look out for on a car with such low mileage in terms of not been driven that much

thanks in advance for you help...

Oil and break fluid change at 2 years old. Check list in my signature and even though its only done low miles worth going through the list. Also check the tyres are original as they should be with this mileage - if they have been changed then maybe the mileage has been fixed OR just a change by the original owner - but worth checking.

Hope it goes OK

I don't think there has been a service carried out on the car yet... i spoke to the guys wife but she said he will call me when he gets back from work this week to confirm a few questions that i have... if there has not been a service, should i walk away

I've recently had a similar dilema but the car had done 29K miles before it was serviced. It amazes me that folk are so clueless about the need to service their car as per the manufacturers advice. Be aware that very low annual mileages usually mean lots of very small journeys which are the worst type for engine wear.

yeah, i think i should walk away if it has not been serviced... 3 years old with only 8500 is very small mileage IMO

Hi 007ml, I have seen that black low mileage Z4C for sale on the web. Looks great in the pictures. Beautiful colour combo with the seats. Mileage is very low alright (lowest I have seen) but defineitely worth looking at. I personnally wouldnt dis-miss it until I had checked it out. It mentions that it is SE spec, but it has the sport seats, steering wheel etc...

this lack of servicing is bad from BMW's point of view, they make a fortune on their services so every time a car forgets a service then BMW loose money, if i was running a BMW dealership I would maintain a database and send out reminders if a car is due a service due to time

Thanks for the replies all... the owner does not seem to know much cars to be honest... however, he did state that it says 14,000km until next service... which would be an oil service, so why hasn't the service taken the number of years (date) into account while calculating the next service interval...

Your help is much appreciated guys as I am thinking strongly about the car...

If you press a certain button when starting the car up it does give the month and year that the brake fluid change is needed (every 2 years - which should be done along with an oil service.

Ok, thanks... so how serious is it that the car has not been serviced yet at 8600 miles, it's only driven a few miles each Sunday

I wouldn't have thought it has done enough miles without being serviced to have done any damage. It's not exactly an old car either. I'd say it will be absolutely fine. If you buy it, I'd put getting it serviced as a priority though. No idea why people buy expensive performance cars and don't bother sticking to the service schedules though :? Defies belief really.

I've seen many people reporting on here that their car hadn't been service for 3 years, due to a mistaken belief by the previous owner that it only needed doing when the computer told them. It doesn't seemed to have caused any problems and wouldn't cause me to be worried if I came to buy one and found this to be the case.

If you're happy with the rest of it, buy it and put in for a oil change straight away

MIles or kilometres? You started out with the former......if its 14k miles then it sounds reasonable.....I don't believe the indicator takes account of time, just general fuel consumption rate (higher consumption reduces service interval).

If it looks OK I'd go for it, but don't go for the low miles = high price thing if the seller tries it.....as The Gill says, ultra-low mileage is the worst kind for an engine and no service in three years just adds weight to you not paying over the odds.

This is Ireland remember, speed in Kms, but distance in miles ...

Apologies... 8600 miles (13840 km) on the clock... and the service clock is indicating 14000km until next service
