I have spent a while searching around but have not been able to find a conclusive install guide. . . I found a thread which gave some information but the pictures are no longer available and I think the pictures were quite important.

I have seen several references to a thread by PVR and spent some time searching for this but to no avail.

My car is a 2007 Z4M roadster, with professional navigation, DSP hi-fi, no cd changer.

Being a Z4M the battery is located on the RHS of the boot. It seems there are two schools of thought for install.

1. Go in through the boot, removing the carpet liners and of course the battery compartment and battery.

2. Go in from the front by removing the vertical part of the centre console / strorage compartment.

It looks as though going in through the boot, although more of a pain will then present options for storing the Alpine and Intravee boxes and cabling behind the rear bulkhead carpet in the boot, presenting an I-Pod cable into the lower compartment of the central storage box - meaning a seemless install.

Thoughts / advice?

In a MR, go from the inside as you can put it here:

It means it is accessible for updates easily.

Obviously the choice is yours, but having dismantled the front so often I preferred that location rather than the boot with breaking of the carpet plugs etc.

Thanks PVR,

I assume I should locate the Alpine KCA unit to one side inside the subwoofer enclosure? Having not had the car open yet, I would assume the subwoofer enclosure to be sealed therefore how do you pass the cables back out to the Intravee and iPod?

My car has the mobile phone cradle in the storage compartment lid. Apparently I need to remove this? Do I do this with a credit card down the gap and just pull it upwards?

Also, the BMW PDF guide for a CD Changer install says to remove the lid by opening it and pulling it towards the front of the car. A different BMW guide talks about putting a bit of 60mm wire into a hole on one side of the lid. Another thread talked about undoing two screws on the inside of the lid.

What is the correct way and how have you done it if you don't mind telling? I don't want to break anything by following incorrect information.

I will try and post some pics and a narrative guide when I have a go at it.

Thanks,

The lid is pull once screws removed.

The actual console - remove these screws:

No need to remove the phone cradle.

The pictures above were from a car that did not have the cradle, mine did and I just left the cable attached and let the lid hang off the cable.

Thanks very much for your help.

I may try and have a bash at it this week.

You will struggle to fit the alpine by the sub enclosure with DSP.

Here's mines

Thanks.

I would really like to try and hide the Alpine away somewhere totally out of sight. I can see this is possible if I remove the boot carpet as there looks to be a space behind a bracket on the bulkhead to the LHS. However, it is grief to remove the battery paraphernalia and carpets just for that.

It looks from some photos I have seen as though the Alpine would sit taped vertical on one side of the sub enclosure. I will have a look into it.

Put it where I did in the centre console. It is easier to remove the interior than faffing around in the boot.

There is no room around the sub enclosure. Not sure what is behind, but as you have no cd changer there is plenty of room in the centre console.

I have a felt lined compartment where the CD changer should be. I was planning on putting the iPod in here, perhaps with the Intravee as PVR has done.

Are you saying to put the Alpine in this compartment or that there is space behind it so it can be hidden away out of view?

Cheers,

Yes, if you look at my link I removed the cd changer that was in that position. This gives enough room to mount the intravee on top of the alpine. I used a section of dvd cover to blank off the hole. Finish looks OEM.

Yes, I noticed there was not a lower compartment on your install.

Thanks, I will give it a go and post back.
