2007 Z4 roadster wont turn over

Hello everyone. I'm having a no turn over issue with my 2007 BMW Z4 roadster 3.0i. Well....winter hit the area and I knew something(s) was bound to go out soon. Previous owner had a smaller battery (H5) in it when I bought it and today I replaced it with a H7 full size model. After that the car would not turn over. It started ok the night before with the old battery. There was some slight dragging on really cold mornings that I thought might be from the smaller battery due to these cars being rich with electronics. I have strong lights, dash lights, air fan, stereo, etc. When I try to start the car there are no clicks or sounds at the key start position. I tried jumping it in case the new one was low. No change. I tried putting the old battery back in, still no turn over. I tried reprogramming my keys in case it had forgotten them in the disconnect, still no turn over. As far as I can tell my car does not have an alarm/immobilizer. It does flash the lights when locking and unlocking and has a blinking clown nose. But no hood switch or sounds. I checked all the fuses behind the glove box and #32 and #5 are confusing me. The way 5 is made makes it not very checkable and 32 is showing no power. I dont have the fuse card but looking online I found hopefully the correct one. Fuse 5 shows is for the lighter and it works. Fuse 32 is for SMG and I have a 6 speed manual so I am assuming "maybe" all is good there. I'll try to check the clutch switch today but I'm not optimistic.

I'm sure it could be the starter but it seems "odd" it would go out without any major dragging first. Ugh :headbang:

I need my car!!!! :(

Any other ideas?

Disconnect the battery, leave it for half an hour and connect it back up again. Make sure the connections are tight.

No clicking or turning would probably mean it's the Starter Motor.

Alternator might not be working too well either.

When it's started get a code reader on the car to see what it's throwing up.

I’m not sure why people are even mentioning alternator???? This is one of two things:

1} Ignition switch
2} Starter motor

I cant start it at all. It hasn't started or turned over since replacing the battery.
I unhooked it for 30 minutes but no change. Used BMW Scanner 1.4 to scan it.
Under live data it shows this.

If I have my choice I'd go with ignition first. Just trying to eliminate other things before replacing the starter.
Your Z4 has a Z4M front bumper on it? Did it fit right up or did you have to modify it?
I need a new bumper cover but wasn't sure if they match up exactly.

Sounds like ignition switch. Less than £20 and 10mins to swap, just had to do mine as sometimes I would turn the key and......nothing.

Most say it's the ignition switch, if its a cheap part and easy to swap out then I’d do that first, that is if you feel confident enough to do it. If not, might as well bring it to a trusted shop or mechanic and have them look at it first.
I had a no start issue with my z4 a few months back, I did research and asked people here so I have all sorts of ideas on what could be wrong with my z4. I did all the checks that they said I should do. Most said it could be my DME based on the symptoms I was experiencing....and they were right. Brought it to a shop and after a lengthy diagnosis they said it is indeed the dme.

Were you having problems randomly or just an abrupt no start issue? I had no (no start) issues til I changed my battery.

It just started to happened one night....won't start but cranks. Most days it won’t start, but when it does, everything works perfectly. Checked all fuses, connections relays etc. Decided to have the pros look into it, the two independent bmw shop I brought it too said the same thing, the DME is on its way out.

Well that suxx. Hope you can get it worked out soon.

Have you checked with the old battery again? i.e. eliminate the new battery as the problem (you said it was working fine the day before?)

Yes I reinstalled it back into the car right after my issue. Had the starter checked today. Starter is showing up as bad. Power is getting to it but nothing is happening.

My car kept hesitating to start two years ago until it wouldn’t turn at all. Ended up being my starter. If it is sign up to Eurocar parts news letter for. 50% discount code. I ended up get a Bosch starter
