I recently purchased my 2007 z4 3.0i a few days ago. The gentleman that I bought it from informed me that the motor crapped out a few years ago and he's been using it as a manual top.
I researched the motor issue and felt it's something I could easily handle with replacement and relocation. I ordered the parts and began inspecting everything. I have no received anything or installed anything but in my inspection I noticed what appears to be a clean cut from the passenger side hinge on the US model. I've attached pictures. I'm probably not explaining it the best so if you need clarification or better pictures please tell me and I'll grab more.
Is there any saving this? Or what I am guessing is that it's a must replace, does any one know the part number and/or if this is an easy DIY fix? I would hate to spend an arm and a leg after just purchasing this vehicle. I really want to breath new life into my new baby.
Any thoughts or ideas would be greatly appreciated.
