2007 or 2008 Z4 issues? locking center console?

Here's how the glovebox and storage locking works on my 2007 Z4M Roadster:

1. Doors locked from locking button on console - Only doors lock, storage compartment stays unlocked, glovebox is unlocked, interior button to release boot (trunk) still works, double unlock of doors by pulling on interior release handle works.

2. Car locked from remote with roof down - Doors are locked, won't open with double pull on interior handle, glovebox is unlocked (no electrical locking mechanism or physical lock on it), central storage compartment is locked, locking/unlocking on centre console is disabled, interior button to release boot is disabled.

I have the setting for automatic locking of the doors when the car starts moving disabled, I don't know whether that will make a difference to how the doors and compartments are locked/unlocked.

Today I pulled the cover off the top of the rear console. On the 2008 M Coupe' there is no mechanism installed to lock the center console door.

I drove a 2007 3.0SI and a 2007 3.0I this weekend and tested both for the locking center compartment. The center compartment on both locked when I hit the lock button on the remote. The button to open the compartment wouldn't budge when I pressed on it with a decent amount of pressure.

Unfortunately neither car had everything I was looking for, so the search continues. I'm in no hurry and would rather find exactly what I want later rather than buying a "good enough" model now. And I don't see the reason for all the fuss regarding the sport mode being too stiff. I drove over railroad tracks at 40 mph in sport mode and thought the car's suspension performed admirably.

Question, were the both Roadsters or was one a Coupe' (Si)? I expect the Roadster's console to lock. I don't expect the Coupe's console to lock.

They were both roadsters. That's all I am considering for my upcoming purchase.

I want to thank y'all for the info on the Z4s. Thanks to all the great information I found on this forum, I bought my 1st BMW this past weekend. The 600 mile drive home gave me a great chance to get familiar with the Z4 inside and out. I'm thoroughly pleased with my purchase. The horsepower is great, the MPG terrific, and the compliments by passersby are in plentiful supply. I will have to carry out Shipkiller's center locking button bypass, as it is an issue on my ride. Until I get an alarm on it, I won't be keeping valuables inside anyway. Now, to research alarms...

So, where are the pictures? What color exterior and interior? Come on man, give us the details!

Ha! I'll have to take some pix this weekend, when the rain lets up. It's silver grey metallic with beige leather interior and beige top. It has dark poplar wood trim, low miles, (30K) and sold well under book value as Z4s aren't selling very well in this economy. The owner kept every book, key, and even the original window information sheet.

Good job! That owner sounds like me, lol. I keep it all (and had it as a bit of bargaining when I traded in my 325).

Here's my new ride. I had time to take a few photos, as the rain and lightning ended my golf game quite early.

Hello,
I have a problem with the lock mechanism of central console. When I press on the key the console closes, but when I open the car the console doesn’t open.
The problem started after the console was taken off from a mechanic to replace hand brake. I think they re installed the console and something is missing like a spring to push back in the lever.
Anyone has the same and can post a picture of a working lock mechanism?!
Thank you
William
