2007 E85 Roof won't open

Have you tried reaching it from the top. You put your seat as far forward as possible, wedge yourself behind it and reach over. If you are lucky, a different angle of attack may all you need.

Yeah that's what caused the bruising all over my arms haha. It's proper stuck and wedged in there! That's also the angle that I came in with the camera and the screwdriver+blade combo.

You need a hand and are local to Lincoln just shout buddy!

I'm in North East London unfortunately! Plus car currently has no MOT, was abandoned at a mechanics and never picked up. Roof, CCV, control arms, service and then onto an MOT. I could quite easily leave the roof until later but it's bugging me too much

I initially intended to screw mine to the garage wall as they are just the right size for a can of beer.

The monkey grips did the trick! Finally got the motor out.

It looks like the brass switch wasn't seized, I can press the button fine and it comes back up. Does the fluid look a bit low?

Any idea what else it could be?

Cheers! Would low fluid be a sign of a leak somewhere? I'm suspecting someone has changed the motor before and may have leaked out all the fluid especially if they never pulled the motor all the way out. The top cover of the plastic was far too easy to remove and the tape had already been cut.

I'll try and get some fluid for it and top it up! Hopefully that'll make a difference!

Ok so I've filled the fluid up and still nothing... the motor is definitely making noise in there but still no roof movement.



I tried to manually push the roof open while the button was being held to see if it needed a helping hand or something but could only get the roof open a bit and then I couldn't close the roof until I pressed the brass valve on the pump. That to me sounds like it's holding pressure.

Any other options? Faulty pump perhaps?

There's a seller on ebay selling a repair kit for £30 I saw... would that be worth trying or better off just getting a motor/pump from salvage?

Did you say it was working ok one way and not the other?

I think Alan number 5 would recommend swapping the lines over to prove a fault

But it does sound like you have issues with the internals as opposed to the actual pump motor being at fault

Oh it's ok neither way. I meant I could manually push it open a little bit while holding the open button.

Someone who sells refurbished motors mentioned to me that it's a typical symptom of the roof motor not having enough power as the water that got in it has knackered it.

If the motor is spinning ‘ok’ then the moving parts in the motor head may be busted- I think they are the parts you get in the repair kit?

Ok I'm swapping the motor to see if a different motor will make a difference... maybe this pump can't generate enough pressure.

Anyone know how to take the top part off the motor?? It's seems like it's fused on?

Update - to remove the flange (or whatever it's called) you to disassemble the entire motor and undo the screws from inside to get the flange off.

Then I had to drill holes in the top side of the flange so I could mount it to the new motor.

Put it all together with a new motor and same nonsense... motor turns and nothing happens.

Pulled the red cable and open/closed the roof twice. Left it open, tried the button and it closes!! Tried to open and it opens!

I guess I just needed to get the air out... my old motor was probably fine but the complete ********* (not on this forum) who told me that my motor isn't powerful enough was talking absolute trash.

I bought a cheapo chinese motor for now from Amazon (£100) where the seller claims for it to be more powerful but I'm thinking that was maybe not true and might rebuild my motor and swap it back. Not sure. It works so maybe I just leave it.
