2007 3.0Si Rocker Cover

All,

A quick question please. The garage servicing my 2007 3.0Si called me on Monday to say the when they took the rocker cover off to change the gasket they discovered that it was seriously cracked. They said that they didn't want to refit it as they thought that it would leak badly. They couldn't find one from their normal supplier and BMW wanted nearly £400 plus VAT for a new one. I looked on Ebay and found this.

Which was delivered today. They have just called to say that this is the wrong rocker cover as mine has a plastic cover and the bolt holes don't line up.

What am I missing?
 
Im pretty sure there was a change during 2007 from a silver cam cover to a black one, but the ebay item doesnt look like either of them. Maybe it just looks different in that pic.

Are you thinking of the plastic cover which sits above the cam cover? The cam cover changed from magnesium to black plastic around 2007 & the pic looks like the earlier cover not the later plastic one with the integral ccv :thumbsup:

Early N52 with silver cosmetic cover has an Ali (or mag?) cam cover as above, and external crank case breather. Later N52 from late 2006 has black cosmetic cover and a plastic cam cover with internal breather. Even the fixings between cosmetic cover and cam cover are different between the two versions.

You should check your car's spec on Realoem before ordering replacement parts so you know what part number you need.

Yes, you have the N52K engine which has the black ignition coil cover and black plastic cam cover (cyl head cover above). Read all about it here.... (page 3 onwards)
