2007 3.0i headlight info?

Hello all....When I bought my 2007 Z4 3.0i, it came with aftermarket Sonar/Spyder headlights.
I want to go back to stock ones. When I ran the decode it showed the car came with Xenon.
Is Bi-Xenon the same as Xenon? Or can I fit either one?

RealOEM.com showed this but I don't understand what they are listing.
This is one I bought off of eBay.

Yes you can.

It’s a bit confusing but Bi Xenon is the correct term.

You’ll want the later post facelift clear bi xenon’s

I'd suggest going to BMW and telling them what you want to do. They'll provide you with the correct info and most importantly part numbers (and an eye watering quote). Then you can see if you can source those in the US or if you might be better getting them new.

To clarify,
both headlights use the outside xenon light, the earlier model used the inner normal bulb for flash. The earlier head lights should be called xenon and the later ones called bi-xenon. the later ones the outer bulb (bi-xenon) acts as both low bean, high beam and flash. The photo above looks like the earlier version with the inner bulb.

BMW printed this for me. But where would the part numbers be on the headlight?
I have talked to several sellers online and they all say they cant find a part number.
I found this headlight online.

Sorry to confuse. That photo was of the Spyder headlights that came in my car and are installed now.
I like the halo look but the light out error stays on the dash and one of the top tiny LEDs are not on and makes it look strange.
It might just be a loose wire but unfortunately my mind wont let that be ok. :? And I mostly prefer OEM stuff.
I also removed the nice Kenwood stereo that came in my car and replaced it with a stock unit.

Would this photo be of Xenon or Bi-Xenon headlights?

Does the Bi-Xenon have two of them? The picture I posted only shows one ignitor I believe.
There is only ever one Xenon HID lamp in any headlamp, pro or post facelift. The difference is that bi-xenon operates in both dipped headlamp and full headlamp mode, with the inboard lamp being a dummy.

Sorry, I dont know what dipped headlight mode is. :? My X5 E53 has self-leveling headlights that move up and down when I start it up. Is that the same thing?

Confusing isn’t it? The headlight can either be on “dipped”, i.e. normal, when there is another car ahead or approaching; or “full beam” when you only have the open road in front of you.

the photo looks like its the more modern version as it has an angel eye bulb holder on the inner bulb

Sorry if I was unclear. The photo in the original post is of the Sonar/Spyder headlights that came in my car when I bought it.
Yes they have angel eyes that look pretty good but the light out dash light stays on and that makes it bad if another bulb goes out somewhere else.

Good point, I've no idea where the headlight part number is printed and have a spare set in the shed myself.

That is a bi-xenon facelift headlight.
(i.e. the one you want)

Nope, Xenon (pre-facelift) or Bi-xenon (facelift) both only have one ignitor.
(I'm aware that pre-facelift isn't technically just a xenon but calling a bi-xenon seems confusing).

Dipped beam is what we call low beam light output in the UK. Basically the light that you use for normal driving, so not main beam (or high beam or full beam).

Hope that helps clear things up! Good luck with your search, AFAIK any facelift xenon should work, so long as it looks like the one in your picture:

That clears the dipped part up for me but color is still confusing me.
The one pictured has a silver interior (not really chrome in appearance) and all the ones I see listed for my car have a black interior. Is the silver for an M car or something?

Thank you for all your help.

Silver inside of headlight is for 3.0 engine. The black inside denotes a lesser engine 2.0 / 2.2 / 2.5

I’m not sure the ///M fits in that statement, believe the M’s also came in black. But I digress... you’ve got a 3 litre so to be ‘true’ you want silver replacements.

Thanks, but I have been doing some parts number referencing. UGH :headbang:
It appears that the ones with silver inside are for the Z4 3.0Si, the Z4 M coupe and the Z4 M roadster.
I am only going by the listings at parts dealers. This site has great photos and a fitment list at the bottom.

The black ones are for the Z4 roadsters.

Yes, my 2007 car with an N52 engine straight from the factory is a 3.0i but I have installed a 3 stage intake, and a 3.0Si tune.
As far as I know "theoretically" it is now a 3.0 Si car.

IMO the black headlights look way better but if someone is a purist (for the Si cars) they would install the silver.

I have a replacement headlight (bi xenon) arriving this week for the coupe. Is it necessary to disconnect the battery before removal and fitting?
OP I hope you don’t mind me jumping into your thread, but I think the question is relevant. :)

Agreed!

Not sure who this was directed to? But I don't mind answering! :D
Personally I'm not sure that you need to, if engine is off then all should be okay, but then I'm no expert. Why not err on the side of caution? :)
