Hi, my Z4 clutch is slipping on pulling away in first. How do I know or find out if it is the plate or the whole clutch that needs replacing? Also, is there any value in just replacing the lot, thrust-race and all?

Also, does it have DMF? Is it a symptom of this. It is more of a judder when pulling awayNothing wrong with other changes

You would need to drop the gearbox to be sure.
And if you are doing that you would just replace the full clutch kit anyway.

All manual BMWs since the 90s have a DMF.

Are you saying it's just juddering rather than actually slipping (revs rise without a proportional rise in speed)? They can judder for a long, long time without being a problem (my 320d has been juddering for about 100k miles.)

It is when I pull away in first, it occasionally makes me look like a learner the way it lurches as the clutch bites.
