Our garage has just updated the firmware on a 2006 Z4MR we are picking up shortly, this was to provide the perspective view on the naviation, and i was hoping, would support the iPhone through bluetooth (which failed to pair when test driving).

The garage has just called me to say that the iPhone still won't pair and that a new command unit is required to support it. This will cost £420 fitted. The current one is not broken - just does not support the iPhone.

Firstly, is anyone aware of this, or has any experienced similar?

Secondly, does this mean that I am going to have problems installing the Intravee to allow for iPod control through the stereo?

Thanks for any ideas!

The Intravee will be hardwired so would not be affected by any Bluetooth problems.

Iphone paired fine on mine too.

And connected to the intravee without any problems - but doesnt charge.

I realise that intravee is not related to the BT, and uses the CD changed cable but was wondering if the software were incompatabile with the iphone it would also be incompatabile with the intravee also. In the back of my mind i seem to remember reading something on the intravee website about compatability with the 2006 Z4, but i have been unable to locate since.

you need a converter to charge an iphone on an ipod charger, they are available on ebay -> clicky

I actually was not planning on using the iPhone with the intravee, just going to use an old iPod for that - dedicated to the car. I've got a Snap in adapter for the iPhone, which does charge the phone... but that's all unless I buy a new command unit for the car according to the garage!

that's what I do. I have an ipod in the boot and my Parrot is paired to my iphone :)

My April 07 B/T works fine with my 3G iPhone .Did have to get a new eject box to take the iPhone snap-in connector .and the process to pair bit odd but now works fine

I think I am going to try it for myself when we collect!

Is the Snap in you have for the new 06 4.ie you have yet to try it ?
If so so you will need a new ejector box which is wider to take the wider iPhone snap in

No - i was referring to the pairing.

My point was do you currently use the snap-in (iPhone ) in a Z4?
My Face lift factory bluetooth has an eject box in the drop down arm which the Snap-in fits
Except the iPhone Snap- in does not fit it's too wide ...so you need a revised ejector box to take the snap in

Yea, the garage are sorting out the snap in and the eject thing. It's more the pairing I am concerned about.

Thanks for the tips.

To confirm it's not playing.

wegras - you said that your pairing was a bit odd... do you remember how you got it to work in the end. That may be the issue i am having.

It involves the button on the eject box .I remember having several tries before it worked .I don't have the at Sat Nav and iDrive just Blue Tooth and business H/U
but that shouldn't make any difference .
Do you have the pass code it's 4 digits and should be with car paperwork .If not it is on the B?T unit label in boot (apparently)
or can be extracted through infamous "computer "
I said odd because very different to our 1Series which was a simple process
I had new user guides with the Eject box and Snapin .Those instaructions do not work only with 09 model on .
You need the original B/T guide to make it work

OK - one month on, had the BT box replaced in the boot with the latest version. Looks like it was the original 06 Z4Ms that don't support the iPhone. Nothing wrong with what was there, just not the right hardware. New box paired a treat, works fantastic with the sat nav screen. Cost £400 fitted - not ideal - will be mad if the next iPhone won't play with it!

Call quality also seems to be a lot better, not sure if that's because the microphone is on above the steering wheel (no idea where it was in the pre facelift roadster - always assumed it was up above the rear view mirror). Had a sensible conversation at 70 with the roof down.

i got an 2006 z4mr and my iphone 3g pairs with the bluetooth fine too. did you follow the instruction clearly?? the only bug i have so far is i can't read sms on the screen although it says the function is available on the manual book.

i don't think the intravee will have any relation to your bluetooth pairing

It's definately an issue with the very early ones, I have a friend with the same car and issue.

I know how to pair, exactly the same as my old z4 - other phones paired fine.

I have a slight issue in that once I unlock the car presumably the bluetooth becomes active. I can hear a faint hiss/buzz which is high pitched. I'm guessing it's coming from the speakers and it's not noticeable once I get the stereo on but is that normal? Certainly not had it on my other bluetooth devices.
