2006 Z4 Nav ?'s

Hello all,

I did a search and I have been going through 17 pages of posts but none have really answered my questions yet. I am considering getting an 06 Z4 with nav and I'd like to know if the NAV is decent (in the US). Is it touch screen? Is the firmware updatable? How are the routing algorithms? I'm used to using my Kenwood aftermarket stereo with my Garmin (they connect together) and I really love it. Will I be disappointed in the BMW Nav?

Thanks for all your help! You guys are great!

Patrick

It's not touch screen.

Firmware is updatable via CD.

Routing seems okay, although I find the route path lines too thin compared to my TomTom.

Thanks for the quick reply. So do you turn knobs on the headunit to enter destinations? Can a destination be entered while the car is moving?

I wonder if I would still be able to use the screen for the computer functions (not GPS) if I remove the stock head unit and put in an aftermarket GPS (if I can't stand the BMW GPS)? Any thoughts?

Yes, it's knobs and clicks for the entry, and yes you can do it on the move.

If you install an aftermarket stereo then you may lose the knobs that control the computer/nav/etc.

BMW satnav is extremely fast in calculating (much quicker then my TomTom I use for cruises). It is also much bigger screen size so easier to read.

Best of all, it is always there without it being able to be stolen.

However ...

It is not the most modern features wise though.

In Europe, we get the Traffic on it as well which you don't have in the US.
