Can my 06 z4 be aligned by any shop , I was told that the computer needed to be reset following an alignment by a bmw stealership and that the bmw diagnostioc system is required and special tools are needed .. This prevents average alignment shops from aligning the z4 , is this true or false . How do I get an inexpensive alignment ? Thanks for any information .

What utter nonsense... see BMW stealers have an international code of conduct!

I believe a Hunter machine is what you're after.

Not all places can set them up, but certainly not just BMW

PawnSacrifice points to 'Hunter' (a brand of equipment) in the UK that I and others have used have used.

All you need is a US shop that has alignenment gear suitable for the Z4 (and not all do) and one who is prepared to get the settings or has them on the machine. They also need to ballast the car with iirc 65 kg in each seat, 16kg in the boot and a full tank of fuel.

Hunter seems to be US: http://www.hunter.com/pub/company/overview/index.htm

Thanks for the information , I found a hunter alignment machine , my car now drives much better , they found a worn bushing problem and agreed to realign my car after the bmw stealership fixes the bushings , my guess is that if I had brought it directly to the dealer they would have blamed the worn bushing on me by saying I didn't bring it to their attention soon enough and therefore they are entitled to charge an excessive fee to align the car .
