Hi,

Having issues with my 2006 2.5si where it’s running/idling rough. Researching things and with a code reader I’m putting down to the Vanos solenoids needing replaced. Have priced these with local BMW dealer, looking @ £110 each, so £220 for the pair. I see there are after-market ones online for a fraction of the price, however reserved in going for cheap and they don’t work/perform as the OEM’s do - anyone advise on what is best or had experience with after market?

Also, have looked into replacing myself as just a hex bolt and pull, however all the videos I see online are on the likes of 3 series with more space - the Z4 has a bit more restrictions lol - any advice?

Cheers

I have the same issue with my 2.5Si. I read somewhere that the solenoids to get are these:-
Part No. Brand: Vaico Part #: 11-36-7-585-425. I'm going to order a pair and fit them. I'll let you know how it goes.

I’ve just replaced my vanos this weekend with the vaico unit, i can confirm it has changed the way it drives!
Seems flawless and at about £150 for the pair, i think its a very good investment having suffered a rough idle for a week or so.

I replaced the Vanos solenoids on my E91 330i (N52 engine). Went for BMW OE items. About £100 each iirc.
