Hi all,

Looking at buying one of these for around 10k.

low miles seems ok nick.

Is it essential to have a decent warranty? Is there likely to be any major costs or thigns to go wrong at this age?

any advice before i buy?

Also I have a young baby and not sure what the passenger airbag situation is with these? Is it easy to get them turned off at delear or is there a cost etc?

Thanks

not sure what age they stared putting the air bag off switch on the side of the passenger dashboard , it becomes visable when you open the passenger door .be aware also if it has sports seats you may find it hard to strap a seat in as they are quite narrow :)

also welcome to the forum

Make sure that you get the facelift model ...ie the one with the square foggies ...
not sure if you will pick one up at that price but also its that time of year that convertibles are cheaper so best of luck ..
Things to check are front and rear springs ,any leaks from the roof and the window regulator does seem to go ..
Try and get a decent warranty that doesnt have a money limit ...and finally check the alloys for cracks etc ...as they are costly to replace ..trust me !!

You have certainly done a good thing by appearing on this form ..there are a lot of knowledgeable folk here and will certainly keep you right ..so feel free to ask any questions no matter how silly they may sound

GOOD LUCK in finding that special car !!!

ps passenger airbag can be turned off at dealer ... :D

My 2.0i was a 2007 and didnt have the airbag switch fitted, it would of been a optonal extra so i would imagine a 2006 would be the same.

Mine suffered from a broken rear spring and cracked exhaust manifold at only 2.5 years old and less then 20k miles, both covered under BMW AUC warranty, recon manifold alone was £800.

Thanks for all the replyes.

The car looks pretty good for the money but i think im going to hang on and get something special rather than getting thie as its a bargain!

Not sure whether to pay extra and get from BMW direct so i get the warranty?

do you have a link for the car you're curently looking at? Someone on here may have already been to check it out. Hard to judge when you can't see it

I'd go BMW and get the warranty, some of the dealerships have really good prices and they cant sell rubbish so you know you'll be getting a good one. I drove over 100 miles to pick mine up, brought it without seeing it aswell.

I got my 2.0i 2007 from BMW. You generally pay a premium for just stepping into the showroom. but you get FREE COFFEE man! (Oh, and I go a great trade-in deal).

I surfed on here for a while before taking the plunge. Basically, if you want to own a Z4 you must consider the possibly of having some hefty bills turning up from time to time. Just replacing tyres can be :( , but advice on here will show you how to dodge some of those costs  . So far I'm very, no VERY happy  with the Z4 snuggled away in my garage and every time I get in it its a treat. Thats what I paid for. So when the rear springs go, or the roof motor grinds to a halt - fair cop. But hopefully those things will happen in the next 9 months or not at all (who am I kidding eh!?)
