2006 BMW Z4 3.0I Turns over but won't fire.

Hello everyone, sorry if I am out of place here. I am new. Okay, drove home and parked my Z4. When I got up to take daughter to school it would just turn over. It is not firing. I put a new battery, unhooked mass air flow sensor, and bought an OBD2 scan tool which came up with 14 readings which were sensors and none would keep the car from firing. All that comes to mind is fuel pump, fuel filter, and alternator to me. Thanks

Could be the ignition switch. Common fault.

When you turn the ignition to position 2 check all the lights come on, if they don’t it’s this. I had exact same issue.

You can pick the switches up for just over a tenner and it’s a ten minute job.

I had a similar issue with my Puma.
Was the fuel pump. Changed it along with the furl filter and it was sorted

Ignition is good, also went through every single fuse. I was saving the fuel pump, filter, and sending unit for last. I read some where that you have to take the exhaust off, ugh! I just filled up the tank. :headbang: :headbang:

Don't discount the ignition switch, you will find threads on the forum where the engine turned but wouldn't start and it was eventually traced to the switch. The switch initiates a whole range of functions including key pairing with the immobiliser and engine fuel/ignition functions via EWS & DME. The switches are not expensive and would at least eliminate the first weak link in the system.

I'm assuming your battery is good? These cars are very sensitive, even small voltage drops can cause random problems and codes.

Hey guys, thanks for all the feed back. Just got my car back after four months at the garage and all they did was dent it, scratch it, store it, and tell me its electrical,,, No s**t!!! anyway, so back to square one, I have put a new battery, new starter, camshaft sensor, went through and tested and replaced every fuse under the hood, trunk, and dash. today I will install a new ignition switch. I will let you know what happens. I am open to any suggestions.. Thanks

well it wasn't the ignition switch either... All I can think of at this point is the fuel pump which was my original thought to begin with. I'm open to all suggestions now... I parked it, woke up and it did not run again. After 2500 dollars, I'm ready to part ways with it if the fuel pump does not work now. :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang:

As srhutch has already said, can you hear the fuel pump prime when you switch the ignition to position II (the one just before it turns the engine over)?

Well the fuel pump priming is a pretty obvious noise... I’m surprised you were never aware of it when the car was running. If it’s not priming then new fuel pump I’m afraid. Pretty rare for it to fail on the Z though to be fair.
