THE HISTORY
first register Dec 2006 by Stratstone Windsor (now amalgamated with reading), purchased by me as an ex-demo in summer 2007 with 2k miles.
I must be one of the longest standing forum members - though not prolific poster I must admit…
This has been my main car for the last 8 years, used daily for a lot of it with probably 80%+ of its miles done on the M4 somewhere between Pembrokeshire and London
I've now got a small baby and a 150 mile round commute, which together mean its got to go. I always intended to keep the car for a long time and hence took good care of it
Although the new 330d I've replaced it with is quicker still, it doesn't put half the smile on my face that the Zed still does after all these years
the maintenance:
tons of paperwork as you would expect including the original brochures
bought with a service inclusive pack, so dealers did the first 60k including brakes at 50k plus - this is testament to the fact that its most been easygoing motorway miles. Since then has been serviced by a local BMW specialist garage in west wales, the mechanic has his own 3L Z4 so knows whats what
three things have broken in this cars entire life:
one rear spring at 70k miles - both rears replaced by dealer (but annoyingly out of warranty
roof motor - I've replaced twice - most recently last summer
cup holders - I've broken the drivers cupholder 4 times I think, now I can fix it myself...
I had loads of investigative work done over the winter as I had bad wheel wobble, and had the bushes done, only to find that in the end it was proper wheel balancing that was needed
I had the alloys repainted last year as they had some scratches. paintwork bears the stone chips you would expect for the age, but after a wash and wax still looks stunning
Its going to need an inspection service in £5k miles, and I suspect rear discs in probably 10-15k. Tyres are michelin pilot sports and all new probably 5k ago.
