2006 3.0si MPG

So with all these questions of what MPG does all out cars do I set myself the task of trying to get a reasonable figure out my 3.0si. So last week I filled up with the normal optimax and reset all the dials. 250 miles later and I got 37MPG! From a 3 litre straight six! And I can honestly say I wasn't driving like a grandma - just employing some tactics like not booting it just to get up to speed and coasting in gear rather than braking. Well chuffed.

There were a few moments when I kinda thought sod it and had to stop myself planting it, but on the whole it was quite chilled out, sat doing 70 on the mway and generally not tearing about has got me an extra 20% range.

Yup, that's good. I got 29.9mpg on a recent 1,000 mile round trip to Scotland. My problem was that I was not necessarily staying too near the speed limit most of the time...

Kept the meter running so to speak and 4 weeks of normal (mixed m/way and town commuting) driving later it is down at about 25. Which is still better than my 2.5l ST, so as far as I am concerned I am quids in

Bloody hell that’s good I cannot seem to get near those figs ... well when I first picked the car up the rears tyres were bad ... and well you could see you face in and it was a bit icy so idled back to Wiltshire and got 39ish I think , cannot seem to get above maybe 33/34 good effort

25mpg - Bing you must either drive like a loon or get stuck in some almighty traffic. Even when I'm not in economy mode I get 30mpg - mind I have a mway commute early in the morning and rarely hit traffic, so a 70mph cruse is easy.

It's just nice to know that it will do it if driven in the right manner - interestingly it's almost exactly the same as my old 182 when I was trying to get monster mpg from it. The V6 however must have had a fuel leak, no matter what I tried 24mpg was the absolute max. I went on a Clio run once and got 8 from it....

when i first got my car with my 18" 108's my derby to london drive (130 odd miles) returned over 40mpg! never above a steady 70, and then the dreaded 50 over the average speed bits.

however now with my 19's and my heavy right foot get closer to 30mpg

London and M25 traffic :(

I do love the loud pedal, and could perhaps accelerate less aggressively when out of 30/40 limits, but I'm far from being a loon - that said, on clear motorway part of my problem is probably that my normal cruising speed is a little higher than 70...

All of my figures come off the OBC though, and I have never calculated it manually - not sure whether it'd be higher or lower if I did ?

Same for me. My ST Mountune did 16mpg around town and 25 on motorways. Didn't think moving from a 2.5 to a 3.0 would improve my mpg that much but I'm getting 24mpg in town and 35 on the motorway.

My record so far is getting 48mpg during a 10 mile average speed camera zone at 50 mph. :o

I think i'll get a 5.6 l V12 next so I can save even more money. :)

I think we should have a competition to see who can get the lowest MPG whilst out hooning. 35+mpg must be one hell of a boring drive

28.5 is what the previous owner got, I've reset it and that's what I'm getting too. Exactly the same as in my old Mondeo ST as well, strange lucky number! My driving is a mix of town and A/B-road.

Yup, 19mpg in my Focus ST. It was the exhaust's fault

Volvo T5 engine in those, I had a V70 T5 and my average was 19mpg and that included 270 miles a week of motorway/dual carriageway and a bit of fast B road commuting, totally shocking and nowhere near fast enough to warrant the poor MPG.

My Z4's long term average is 31mpg, have managed to get high 30's on a long trip but usually I just leave the MPG trip rolling to keep a running average, rarely get lower than 30 but it feels like im filling the thing up every 5 minutes.
