2006 3.0i vs 3.0si

Good Day, going to look at a 2006 this weekend. Listed as a 3.0si and want to confirm this upon inspection. Tried searching and could not find my answer. I know the si has larger front brakes and a different intake. Is there a visual way when looking at the engine to determine this? Thanks for any help. Carl

Hi Carl,

If you know the registration then go to the link below and hit get quote, it will list the model of your car for you to confirm before you actually have to put any personal details in.

https://www.bmw-warranty.co.uk/Start

Then always worth checking the MOT history so you can get a feel for the issues to look out for:

https://www.check-mot.service.gov.uk

If you don't know the registration then ask before you travel to see it, no reason for the seller not to give it to you.

Good luck!

3.0si badges on the wing should give it away :D tbf you'd struggle to find a late registered 3.0i.. not something Ive ever seen.. plenty of late 2.0i but not 3.0i

M54 looks like this. Although this is a 2.5i, the 3.0i looks the same

N52 looks like this (3.0Si), although earlier versions have a silver cover instead of black.

Usually it would also have the dipstick fitted, which is the biggest giveaway.

Hi and welcome to the forum Carl.

If you can get the VIN from the seller you can check on a VIN decoding site to find out. Or if you can get a photo of the rev counter the red line will be at 7,000rpm if it's an Si. 3.0is have a lower limit - 6,500rpm I think.

Anyway good luck with your search.

In the US where the op lives the n52 engined cars were available as the 3.0si & also as a 3.0 with a different inlet manifold.
