I need to replace my mirrors because of yellowing. I removed drivers side mirror glass. I unplugged the two wires but what are the smaller two wires on the other side (purple and black)? For that matter what are the two wires that I unplugged. I am new to bmw ownership. Just bought the car today. Please help!!!
 
Just a guess, but could be for heated glass? I know it was an option I don't have so could be for that. But again, just a guess.
 
As Rob has suggested, the wires that appear completely wired in (i.e. no way to disconnect them) is the autodimming feature; it was an option on some cars. My car has them and I looked at replacing them; normal mirror glass is dead cheap, replacement auto-dimming glass is like 10x more expensive! Decided just to stay put with my mirrors as they are, as the yellowing it's that noticeable yet.

The two wires you disconnected are for the heated elements.
 
I’m guessing the yellowing is where the mirrors have bled. The contents are corrosive so best replaced before the leak and damage your paintwork.
 
Thanks for the replies. After doing some research I went with regular mirrors. No heated or auto dimming. Didn’t want liquid leaking on my car and don’t need heated mirrors in Florida. Found some on amazon for $33 for both mirrors with the plastic backing plate.
