2005 z4 No power from battery at all.

Hello everyone I have a good first post! I just did the battery, starter and alternator about a week ago. Car ran fine for a few days and then all the lights on the dash came on and it limped home. Now there is no power and the battery is showing a full charge on my meter. I looked on the negative cable and my car doesn't have the ibs. Where do I need to start to look.

I would bring it back to the shop that did the battery, starter and alternator change/repair on your car.

When you meant no power, do you mean the car has no electrical power even if the reading across the battery shows 12V? Or is the car down on (horse)power?

No power to anything. Acts like the battery is unplugged. I replaced the starter, alternator and battery. Also did my expansion tank and hoses. It was an aggressive maintenance filled weekend. The starter went out so it needed to be replaced. The old battery was the original from 05 and the alternator failed testing.

I have already turned in the old battery as a core.

What about the box the positive cables go into that's mounted next to the battery. Can I bypass that for testing?

Do you have a multimeter?

If not get one, then you can see if you are getting power in the car and where. Without one your just pissing in the wind.

Check all the cables to the starter motor, make sure the earth is good too. I have heard of new batteries dying in days, depends how it was stored and how old it is.

I did test it and it showed 12.6 on my meter that was left out in the rain. I bought a new meter since i couldnt read the whole 1st number due to the rain issue. and now it shows 02.6. The battery is on there charger/tester. Once I get it started again I will check the alternator output and go from there. I want to thank everyone for the help.

Well just found out that the alternator is toast. So I'm sure that took the battery out. All the parts will be in saturday. Wish me kick and thanks again. I will keep you all posted.

Before throwing more expensive parts at it, it may be worth taking a breath and asking "did I need to replace the alt' battery and starter or was it only one (or possibly none) of these at fault?". If you are now saying the second battery is toast, how have you reliably checked the new alternator output? you can't do a proper alternator voltage check unless the battery is OK. ... and yes new batteries can go rogue but I'd be testing the continuity of the connections/earth and thinking about a short/drain and testing current on the fuses when the cars shut down. Just a thought before spending Christmas chucking parts at it, good luck 8)

I have read bad things about auto zone reman alternators. And the voltage regulator going bad almost immediately. I will be going thru the wiring and checking fir a drain as suggested. Of course I'm going to step away for a day or so.

Well 4 alternators later and still dont have a good one. I have had the last 3 fail out of the box. They all get remanufactured from the same facility. And 3 different stores testing them. The diodes have failed in all of them. That fine quality coming out of mexico. Besides the dealer where can I get a new one?

Yes. 3 of them failed in the store. After the 2nd one they thought their leads were bad so they tested a different alternator that uses the same lead and it passed.

I would be going for a better quality alternator. How long is it going to last if they fail before they come out of the box.

Yes. The last 3 never even made it on the car they failed in the store. All have had diode fails. I even had the last one tested at multiple stores. The one store thought there lead was bad so the ordered another with the replacement alternator still no good.

Even if they supply you with a working unit - I would have serious doubts re it's service length.
