So, I've spent a while reading through the many posts in this forum to do with roof issues. My roof has been a little slow for a while now, but the motor always sounded pretty content (no noticeable straining noises) and the automatic latches work fine. I opened up my boot to inspect the bowden cable and found that, bizarrely, it was actually pulled out with the quarter twist to stop it retracting back into it's normal position. My understanding was that this should in fact engage the bypass! So, I twisted it back to its' proper position, but was surprised to find that the cable not automatically retract into the hole and i actually had to push it back into the normal position (again, I may be wrong, but I was under the impression there was a degree of tension on this cable). After doing so, I went back to lower the roof to find that now the latches detach, but there is absolutely no noise whatsoever from the roof motor any more! ARGH!
I've tried engaging and disengaging the bypass and nothing changes. No more roof motor noise. The roof is very easy to open manually with the cable in either position, but fairly stiff to close. The latches work regardless. With my extremely limited knowledge, essentially gathered exclusively from this forum, it would seem that either the bowden cable is not doing its' job, or the motor by some coincidence gave up at exactly the moment I moved the bowden cable.
I understand the procedure to replace the roof motor if it comes down to that, however I would likely take it to a professional due to my limited knowledge. Does anyone think it might be due to something other than the motor and, if so, anything I could try?
