2005 Business Headunit> IPOD Connection?

Hi all!

First post, so be nice. I was a member of Z4um.com in 2004, but that appears to have since disappeared so I have migrated here!

Reason for the post is concerning my 2005 Z4. It has a std business headunit in it linked to the multifunictional steering wheel.

The car was booked in on Tues to have an IPOD adapted fitted. I left the car with the audio sho for 2 hours to return to find they had not fitted it. I was told that not all BMW business units are CD changer compatible and mine has the multifunctional steering wheel socket plugged into it where the changer should plug in. So basically, my headunit isnt able to support a changer or IPOD.

Now I have a feeling this is bollocks, and the reason the work was not completed was simple- they couldnt figure out how to remove the headunit!

So 2 hours of my life wasted mooching round shops and eating at Subway! Anyway, can anyone clarify if their claim is indeed true, and I will not be able to fit an IPOD adapter due to the steering wheel control socket being occupied, and, is it true that not all Z4 business units take CD changers?

Any insightful advice glady receivfed on the topic! Cheers all. :)

Does your Zed have a business radio with a slot in it for playing CDs? I am not familiar with all the radios available on Zeds. Mine has the standard Business radio with a slot to play one CD at a time. It also has a multi-function steering wheel. Changes tracks, and volume etc. When I pulled the vent out to put an I-pod adapter in there was a plug in the CD changer slot. (I do not have a changer but there was a plug there anyway). I pulled that plug out, put in the adapter plug and all works very well. Pulling out the vent was a PITA for me, but I got it done.

I hope this helps you. :)

Thanks for the input Wazzzzerman, your car's spec is the same as mine.

Any idea what the plug did that you pulled out? I assume it was perhaps some form of blank plug?

When I looked at the back of the radio there were several ports with plugs in them, each with many wires in each plug. The one I pulled out was for the CD changer. I do not have a changer for multi-CDs that mounts behind the seats. But the wire harness was there anyway.

There are several posts under Aux setup on the forum here with pictures. I got the adapter that is mentioned form the mini cooper dealer. It is the same as the BMW one but at half the price. It has a keyway in it so you can not really put in the wrong slot. When you pull the vent out and take the radio out it is quite easy to see how it goes.

Getting the vent out is the hard part. After that it is very easy. Just do a search on AUX or Air vent removal and you should see many good DIYs on the subject. It really is not that difficult and I would never pay BMW to do it at the price they want. Good luck and if I can be of any help please drop me a note at my mail address and I will try to help you.
