2005 3.0i or 2006 2.5si ??

Looking to buy a Z4 at a limited budget. Considering pre-facelift 3.0 manual (231hp) or post-facelift 2.5si (218 hp). These 2 should be pretty similar in terms of performance I think, but the newer 2.5si sells at premium of 15-20% which I am not sure it is worth paying. On the other hand, I like the looks of facelifted cars, hill-hold feature, probably more economical engine of the 2006 and other bits. Is there any differences in terms of sat nav SW?

I would like to hear opinions about future resale values, perfomance, etc.

IMO, I love the grunt of the 3.0i and actually prefer the fogs/rear lights of pre facelift. That said, the clear head lights are nicer...

Sat Nav is the same although newer will prob come with newer map disc.

I had a limited, budget but really wanted a facelift, They just look newer in my opinion. Its a tough one as the performance should be pretty much the same with only a few 10th's of a second in it. I found newer facelifts cheaper on the insurance also.

He said 3.0i or 2.5si, only the 2.0l is a 4 pot.

PS. Nothing wrong with a 4 pot, its one of the best ive driven.

I test drove the 2.5Si and 3.0i

Personally I found the 2.5Si a decent performer, but it had to be driven hard (5000rpm+) to get that performance.

The 3.0i can go briskly driven to 3000rpm.

Of course, there is nothing wrong with an engine that needs revving to get the power/performance, indeed that can often improve the fun factor, BUT, I think the 3.0i still has a revvy nature and so is enjoyable, but is also much more comfortable as a day to day car with the much improved torque low down.
Also, it's longer gearing makes it a much better cruiser.

Just depends what you want. I'd recommend driving both for a good 20 mins each to get an idea of the engine and seats (Si will come with M-sport seats, 3.0i will likely come with standard seats), then you can make your choice on seats/engine :D

Think its a tough call which one i would go for, but i love the sound of the pre facelift 3.0, it has a juicy beefy noise to it. Take both out for a good run then decide.

Also remember when you drive the 3.0i, the noise can be vastly improved at lower rpm with sound generator foam removal... ie, I run about 25% of the foam and it's really nice vs how they come standard!

I can understand your dilema - it's always nicest to have the newest possible. When I was searching however, for whatever reason - my first criteria was that it had to be a 3 litre, then came the rest. That's just me personally.

At the end of the day, if performance is at the top of your list, then it has to be the 3 litre. Mind you, unless you've got two cars in particular that you are choosing between I'm suprised that there's that much difference in price between a 2.5si and a 3.0si - though to be honest I haven't looked.

No i dont think there is much between the 2.5si and 3.0si value wise, but running costs will clearly be higher on the 3.0si.

Back to the original post he is after a 3.0i or 2.5si no mention od 3.0si :poke:

The 2.5si is the replacement for the old 3.0i, but the choice is difficult, my remit was easy I was looking for a car less than six months old with the biggest engine I could find at a price, looked like the 2.5i was going to be the one, but found my 2.5si hidden away.

As others have said though, drive them both and make you mind up that way.
