2005 3.0 Black SE Roadster for sale, 63k, FSH, £7500, located near Clitheroe in Lancashire. Sorry lots of words to follow.......

Long-time lurker here, never a regular poster (as noted by some) but after 8 years of ownership it’s time to let go of my beloved 3 litre convertible.

History? Lots of it. I bought the car when it was one year old from Vines in Gatwick (so just two owners including myself). It’s now just gone past its 9th birthday, it was MOT’d and had an Inspection 2/oil service on 28th August. It’s currently on my private registration but that will be off in the next week or so. I will be taking the road tax off when it sells as I believe that’s the DVLA new rules.

Specification:

3.0 litre, straight 6, M54 engine.
Black Metallic with black leather.

63630 miles on the clock as of today (13th October), but I’m not using it daily, this is unlikely to rise much.
Full service history (all stamps present), all BMW dealers until it was out of warranty (Aug 08) then with Forshaws BMW & Mini Specialists in Nelson, Lancashire.
Oil changed every 12 months regardless of mileage. Service display says next oil change/service is due in 14000 miles
I have every service invoice since I’ve owned it, every MOT certificate, the original handbook, instructions for Bluetooth, original BMW folder, pretty much everything along with lots of other paperwork and receipts for things like tyres, a stubby etc.

Both original BMW remote keys.

M sports seats HEATED and Electrically operated (I always get confused whether this should just be “sports” seats, but they’re the ones with extendable thigh supports and thick side bolsters)
Multi-function M sports steering wheel (the THICK one with black stitching)
Cruise control
Bluetooth/handsfree
BMW business radio/single CD
BMW HiFi loudspeaker system (extra speakers behind seats and subwoofer in boot)
Aux in for iPod/mp3 (located under the panel/heater controls)
M sports gear knob
18” Ellipsoid alloys
4 matching Falken 452 tyres (NOT runflats), fronts have 5mm of tread, rears 3mm)
Two cup holders
Stubby aerial
Original mesh wind deflector
BMW mobility kit (compressor and tyre gunk)
First Aid kit, fully intact in storage box under passenger seat
Additional storage box under driver’s seat
Storage net in passenger footwell
Chrome exhaust trims

It’s got all of the standard SE spec for a 3 litre, i.e. six forward gears and even one for going backwards, sports suspension, “sport” button which sharpens up the throttle and makes the steering more responsive, headlight washers, auto lights and wipers (rain sensor), the doors lock when you drive off, remote boot release, original tool kit (including alloy wheel locking key) in the boot, and original BMW carpet mats (excellent condition). There’s probably some other stuff too which I take for granted so please ask anything you want to.

The car has always been garaged, is clayed at least once a year, is washed and hoovered almost every week and regularly waxed by my own fair hands. I always use Meguirs and Autoglym products.

The roof has no green grime on it and is functioning perfectly, no tears or stains and as the car’s always garaged it doesn’t sit in areas waiting for its drain holes to block and potentially kill the motor.

Basically everything works perfectly, there are no warning lights; the engine starts first time, every time without hesitation and drives like it should. I have never taken it on a “track day”.

I removed one piece of foam from the sound generator several years ago as it sounds awesome but I still have it and it’s easy to replace if you want a more subtle noise.

I have a handful of spare bits which I will chuck in: the original gear knob, the original whip aerial, half a bottle of BMW roof proofer (it’s recently been treated), four original wheel centre caps, BMW touch up paint (never used), a spare interior door handle pull trim and the aforementioned piece of foam. There’s also a top up oil in the boot (unopened).

What’s wrong with it? Mechanically nothing, as I’ve said above, it’s just had its MOT and Inspection 2 (major service) which includes spark plugs etc.

The rear bumper could do with a tidy up; there’s been a few scratches from careless parkers somewhere (not me!). All of the alloys have a bit of kerb rash but the tyres are not cut or damaged in anyway. The windscreen is perfect, there’s barely a stone chip on the front bumper and bonnet.

Why is it going? I keep asking myself that every day! Basically my son is about to take his driving test and funnily enough there isn’t an insurer in the land who will touch a 17 year old in a Z4! So, it’s got to go, to be replaced by something we can both, ahem, “enjoy” and still insure reasonably. Whatever we get it’s going to be one hell of a comedown but that’s what we do for our kids, eh? No, that's just me then.

I’m currently getting 30+ MPG and my insurance is just £200 (restricted mileage, garaged, good postcode, 48 years old with clean license, fingers crossed!). Road tax is just £285 a year. I don’t use it daily as I work from home; I use my wife’s Kuga for business and subsequently the Z has become the quintessential weekend toy.

I have loved owning and driving this car for the last eight years, somebody is going to be very, very lucky to own it and I’m probably going to have a little cry.

As I said at the start, I live near Clitheroe in Lancashire, 20 minutes from junction 31 of the M6. I work for myself from home so I’m fairly flexible about viewings and test drives (subject to seeing suitable proof of insurance). I’m only advertising on this forum for now as, like a soppy git, I’d like to see it go to a good home/another enthusiast.

Any questions at all, please reply on this thread or DM me and I’ll give you my phone numbers and we can have a chat.

Thanks for taking a look, if anybody has any suggestions about how I’m waffling or missing any details please let me know!

Fingers crossed the following photos work and do it justice.....

Great example. I wonder if you should keep it and get another vehicle for your son. He can then build NCD of his own for the future. Our son has a Toyota Aygo which was cheap and still holds a similar value now, five years on. We sold a Zed some ten years ago and regretted the decision. We now have another to enjoy.
Good luck with whatever you do.

Looks like a great car with an excellent Spec especially with those M-Sport interior goodies. GLWTS

Nice looking motor..

I'm on the lookout and if I could stretch my budget I'd be up there taking a look.

Sadly I have to be sensible with the cash (so my wife tells me!)

Thanks for the comments guys.

RoyE, it's just not practical (or cost effective more importantly) for us to run three cars, but I know exactly what you mean that I will regret the decision. To be honest I keep thinking "what am I doing?"; I've never owned a car this long before and it's just become part of me, but when I saw the look on my son's face when we took a test drive of the Z's possible replacement, well, I just have to go through with it.

Thanks again for the support.

Quick update on a couple of things I missed from my original listing, which have been raised in DM's:

I am a none smoker.

The car has been run exclusively on Shell V Power wherever possible, I would estimate around 95% of the 47,000 miles I've covered in it.

I'm happy to give access to any inspection, eg. RAC, AA etc, subject to a contract being agreed.

Any other questions please get in touch.

Thanks

Lovely looking motor there mate.

Off topic but whenever we drive through your area and see signs for Clitheroe, the missus always laughs

Imagine having to live here!

Loads of great roads out that way though :)
Planning a drive out through Gisburn / Paythorn to the Hodder river / reservoir tomorrow , never been & its only 15-20 miles from me :driving:

The road from Gisburn out towards Settle can be very pleasant. Decent tarmac, just watch out for the bikers.

Shamelessly bumping this as I've finally got the retention certificate back from DVLA today (delay was due to me being a moron and forgetting to send the V5 back in the first place!).

So, she's back on the original 05 plate (which matches all the original BMW paperwork), is clean, has done about 20 miles more than the original listing and eagerly awaits a new owner.

Hell, at this rate there'll still be half a tank of juice in it!

Questions welcome, DM me or post something on here.

Cheers

Dude, looks like you have a really narrow garage :o
Isn`t hard to get in and out of the car ?

Nailed me! Foam on garage wall and a bit of flexibility gets me in and out, wife pisses and moans every time she has to drive it!

This item of a 87 year old man in Belgium and his VERY tiny garage was on the tv a couple of years ago.

I've amended the title as I received an offer today and have taken a deposit. Thanks to all for taking the time to read my original listing.
